I really enjoy them and wish there were more good ones. There have been a few out recently but I hear literally no talk about them so I assume they aren't very memorable. I should give them a shot though.

They're fun, but in small bursts.

Although Class of Heroes 2 is pretty shitty for breaking the golden rules of build-a-party RPGs and limiting your choices arbitrarily.

CoH1 is a remake of a wizardry title. Alchemy grinding a +9 gear set turns it from rocket-tag to face roll for a long time though... Up to post game really.

The EO series is overall good.

PersonaQ is... an oddball with poor balancing.

DemonGaze is rocket tag or curbstomp, with nothing inbetween.

Mind=Zero is alright, but it's balance is pretty much you're either face rolling or getting stomped, and the difference is two levels of xp.

Can't think of any others atm.

The races are restricted in what classes they can take, most obviously because they included art for each class, but didn't want to do each race/class combination.

Where the original, if you could roll up the stat points, you could make any race any class you want. Allowing you to set up any party you wanted.

Also, it's guide begging, because there's no indication if you can't make them the class because of stats, or because of racial lockout.

Unchained Blades for the PSP and 3DS was pretty fun. It's mostly a story driven dungeon crawler though so no class building. Also had a neat system of catching and taming monsters as you followers and such.

They're alright, but I just can't get into them. I'll play for a few days and then drop the game and pick it up after 6 months. Still haven't beaten EO4 yet, and I bought it two years ago.
On the other hand, Dungeon Traveler 2 was a lot of fun, and it was the first of its genre where I didn't drop the game after a week and played it from start to finish in a few days.

I love the genre and many of my favourite titles are first person dungeon crawlers but I get frustrated when I think about all the different tweaks to the Wizardry formula that could be made compared to how little experimentation devs have been trying. It's upsetting that even recent titles still cling to certain mechanics even if they clash with the rest of the game just because Wizardry had them.
