Dps is the class for those who are never satisfied with being "good enough", but always strive for #1.
If a tank survives, his job is complete.
If people don't die, the healer can be satisfied.
And once the boss is on farm, they can both sit back and do their memorized routine. They have no more room to improve, their jobs even keep getting easier and easier.
But being a dps is a fierce competition even on the 20th farm kill. There are always ways to improve and pull another 0.5% more. As you get more and more gear, the phases during the bossfight keep coming faster, and a cooldown that lined up perfectly last week might come too late on the next one. You have to continuously compensate for new item levels and keep relearning the fight, while coming up with new ideas on how to improve.
