I know /v/ hates it because of reasons. But this game really is one of the best released in the last 5 years. It's fuckin amazing. The graphics are pretty great, not close to top powerhouses of today but sometimes in cutscenes or certain sections it just shines. The voice acting is hands down the best i've heared in a game and the story is what really drives the whole ship, obviously.
I played it on grounded recently and damn, it finds that perfect blend of action, stealth and survivor. I does have flaws, like ladders/bins/pallets/planks over and fucking over.And the aiming and AI can be a little clunky at times but it's still a really solid game.

It was a bland third person shooter with braindead AI. I played on the hardest difficulty, and it was too fucking easy thanks to enemies who can't aim for shit, and literally blind zombies. Glitches were commonplace as Ellie magically walked through hordes of enemies undetected that I'm trying to sneak by.
It had some pretty graphics, but literally 0 artistic direction. It just tried to look "realistic" without any sort of meaning to it.
The story was mediocre and predictable. "Your daughter died, now go escort this girl who fills the void she left, inevitably bond with her, and slaughter the only people actually doing something to stop the zombies because they were going to kill your adopted daughter"
Voice acting is irrelevant to game quality.
I felt ripped off, and I got the game for free.

Any escorts don't get detected by stealtg, but I do agree they should have worked on better path in AI to make it believable. The artistic direction is great and they created settings and visuals to match the current tone of story/obstacle, everything feels deliberate. It wasn't trying to be a special snowflake game, it was going for a well crafted story and game. They wanted something simple so they could focus on making characters that react and animate naturally to the situation.

I guess we all take what we can from it differently. I know the story has been told a million times before but i don't think it has been in games, certainly not as well as it was here. I genuinely cared for a lot of the characters i met in the game, as i really felt for Joel. I guess im very different to you in human connection. Not saying you dont have any, i just saw and felt different to you in relation to the characters. See i dont even remember caring about a character in a JRPG since maybe FF10. The soldier radios in saying he's found two people as asks what his orders are and we assume he's told to shoot on site, because the outbreak is literally out of control and any one without a mask could be infected.
