Who made the best 90s cyberpunk masterpiece, /v/, /a/ or /tv/?
/a/
The Matrix is shit.
GitS is my favourite movie.
Deus Ex is one of my favourite games but also pretty flawed.
I'd say /a/ wins.
/a/
>>321911116
definitely /a/.
As someone who doesn't even like anime, /a/
>>321911374
Same actually
>>321911258
>the matrix
>shit
opinion automatically discarded
Ghost in the Shell is the most overrated piece of shit of all time.
Movie is a 6/10, manga is a 5/10, SAC is a 2/10
>>321911642
when was the last time you watched it anon?
SS2
/mu/
/a/
>>321911668
What about it don't you like anon? I'd like to hear your opinion.
>>321911746
Christmas senpai
>>321911116
Probably /a/.
>>321911989
Me too senpai all three
Anything but /tv/
>>321911746
I'm actually going to be honest and say i was trying to bait some further explanation as to why you think it's shit.
I mean, i like the film but i also liked the sequels and i watched all of them years ago, the first time i watched the matrix was when i was a kid and i think like 3 years ago was the last time.
I mainly loved it for the fight scenes anon, i'm not going to give any indepth excuse as to why i find it great.
ghost in the shell isnt cyberpunk.
The world is literally the same only a bit more futuristic. There's nothing dystopian about it.
>>321911116
Why is Matrix representing /tv/ for the best cyberpunk movie when Blade Runner exist?
Blade Runner should represent /tv/.
On an unrelated note, Blade Runner wins.
/a/
Deus Ex had a ton of themes that were badly put together, it's hardly cyberpunk.
The Matrix was too normiecore
>>321911116
matrix > deus ex > GitS
Matrix is pretty damn fun
Never seen GITS
Deus Ex is a top contender for my personal GOTYAY
I'll have to go with /v/
>>321912664
Nobody reply to him
>>321911116
>best 90s cyberpunk
Deus Ex was released in 2000, though.
Matrix is a piece of shit
GITS is good
DX is good
I honestly thought the GiTS manga was better than the movie.
I'll take Deus Ex.
>>321912674
>Why is Matrix representing /tv/ for the best cyberpunk movie when Blade Runner exist?
Blade runner is from 80s
>>321912879
he's right. Masamune himself agreed with director, Mamaroru Oshii, who called it "Post-Cyberpunk"
>>321912307
>he liked the sequels
>All the edgemasters itt who pretend to not like Matrix
It's the greatest movie of all time and you know it. But go ahead, be a contrarian. Maybe it will give you the illusion that you are unique and special.
>>321913217
the movie is a masterpiece in animation but the movie itself is meh
The anime is good at times, but Kusanagi's redesign is fucking disgusting.
>>321912879
>I've only watched the movie
>>321911116
/a/ll the way
>>321913292
>he didn't get i was exactly trying to say i don't have good taste regarding the matrix series past THE FIGHTZ R 2 C00L reaction i get from them
>>321913340
>the greatest movie of all time
my sides are moving on their own
Watched Matrix again recently and it wasn't as good as I remembered.
Watched GitS only once like month ago, but I was really tired so I didn't really follow what was happening. Need to watch that again soon.
Played Deus Ex last time about year ago and it still holds up as one of the best games I've played.
So /v/ wins for me but I really hope that I can get into GitS when I watch it again.
>>321913548
>>321913727
Why are you such a pathetic bitch?
/a/ > /v/ > /tv/
>>321913727baka
Deus Ex > Matrix >GitS
The Matrix literally copied an entire action sequence of GitS. I like the first one but it's a blatant rip off of other works of fiction to take it seriuos. Of course if you dont know a thing about the sub-genre you will think the Watchowskis are geniuses.
>>321911802
I like the cut of your jib anonymous user
>>321914142
This
The whole action scene as Neo and the woman enter the tower were morpheus is is awful.
It's like the watched the Floating Museum scene from GitS, picked out everything that looked cool and said "Lets have that except 100x more over the top so it loses all sense of restraint and weight"
>>321914142
The more movies you watch the more references and homages youll pick up.
Its like saying Kanye West ripped off Akira
>>321914632
I love me some well done intertext but detest plagiarism. Learn the difference, faggot.
Ghost in the Shell is an absolute masterpiece
nothing even comes close

Thank you. I find the character designs pretty shitty in that movie. Stand Alone Complex did it better.
Deus Ex > The Matrix > Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell is garbage.
>>321913292
Matrix Reloaded was at least a fun movie.
Revolutions is just total shit.
>>321911116
/a/ > /v/ > /tv/ assuming you only mean matrix 1
if its the whole trilogy then LOL
>>321911802
>implying /mu/ even knows who aphex twin is
I get what you're going for anon but /mu/ is either too busy riding kanyes cock or masturbating over the same 5 albums they always do to actually listen to interesting music.
BLAME! > GITS
>>321911116
/a/
>>321916372
>Andy and Larry (now Lana) Wachowski
I didn't know one of them was transgender, what do I call them now that I can't go with Wachowski brothers?
>>321917095
Siblings?
>>321916856
Eh, GITs has better characterization. The Major may be something of an emotionless introvert but she's not a turbo-assburger like Killy and the characters of GITs are better overall desu.
>>321917332
I only saw the two movies, found BLAMEs universe and characters to be generally more interesting.
Batou and that other guy were cool though, more of them instead of jerking over the Major and it can be going places
>>321911258
The Matrix is a movie that aged terrible
/a/ has too much great cyberpunk stuff from the 90s, it's not really fair.
>>321917095
They are both faggots. I love that one time when Alan More made them retract some stupid shit they said.
>>321917095
They still go with "Brothers". Though, barely anyone uses it because their one trick pony ran off and everything they touch is shit now.
/a/. It's not even a competition
>>321916834
>/mu/
>not licking aphex twin's ass at every opportunity they get
>>321916242
This guy kind of had it right until he got to the sexuality part. One of the major takeaway themes from GiTS is life and reproductive sexuality in this post-cyberpunk future.
You have the major who is overly feminine and personality wise is also very mothering. Yet despite all this her prosthetic body lacks the one thing that actually makes her female, the ability to bear life.
In the end she overcomes this and reproduces successfully with 2051.
>>321911116
/a/, then /v/, then /tv/, though I love all three.
>>321911116

There's no year 0, so every decade starts at 1 and ends at 10, 90s = 1991 - 2000, both included.
>>321922815
This man knows which direction up is in.
>>321917571
Yer mum aged terribly, but that didn't stop me from 'avin a bit of fun witter m8.

/v/ because you didn't just watch it - you experienced it.
>>321922815

/co/
>>321912674
>bladerunner
>/tv/
this is why Matrix never did it for me. I had got my cyberpunk jollies off of /lit/ long before /tv/ had anything to do with it.
that said, /a/ wins with GITS and Armitage III.
>>321922815
Blade Runner is overrated.
>>321927009
Nope. Its quite accurately rated.
>>321925098
This guy knows what the fuck is up
>>321911116
bladerunner
Metropolis.
The OG cyberpunk masterpiece.
>>321928071
But there's no punk in that cyber. We'd call it retro futurism now. Not too sure it has a narrow defining banner to be placed under. Its just sci fi.

>>321928638
Not him but is that supposed to be a bad thing?
The first Matrix was really good. Not mindblowing or deeply philosophical or anything, but the cinematography was fantastic, the action sequences great, and the whole thing was full of memorable scenes. The sequels should not have happened though.
GitS had incredible animation, and I'm glad I hat the opportunity to see it in the cinema when it was new. But the story was lackluster, and I can only recall three scenes: the intro, that one gunfight on the streets with the cloaking tech, and the final merging scene with the white haired guy. That's seriously all I remember.
Deus Ex was an incredible game in pretty much all ways that matter. The writing and story campy but memorable with some genuinely clever parts, the level design top notch, and plenty of TECHNOLOGY moments if you experiment. It's one of those games that despite having many flaws still qualifies for that GOTYAY title.
So for me it has to be
/v/ > /tv/ > /a/
