And in case someone's once again new to this PC gaming stuff: Use a program like DaemonTools Lite to mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

I never touched a single Silent Hill, have no inclination to do so either, but even I know that the movies didn't even get the point of Silent Hill at all and it turned it into a generic Hollywood box office poison, just like anything Hollywood tends to whitewash. The only cool part of it was Pyramid Head in the first one, I guess.

First movie was okay-ish, it just dragged on. The second movie is what made EVEYBODY cringe.
The former is if anything one of the least bad vidya-to-movie transitions; shit like Far Cry, Dungeon Siege, Alone in the Dark, etc were godawful.

Get or emulate 1 pronto, even with its dated graphics it had great atmosphere for what it sets out to be. It's still among my favorite games I've ever played and remains on my 3x3's here.
2 and 3 are good if you enjoyed the first. 2nd was a more dreary-mood game in a new story, and the 3rd had probably the best visuals + a tenser overall mood (but dives right in, so you kinda need to be a fan first)

4 was (allegedly) supposed to be a new IP called The Room but it got SH-branded to maximize appeal. It's decent but suffers from DMC4's "half a game copy-pasted over".
The games afterwards may vary heavily since Team Silent broke up to avoid the same fate as Kojima and MGS, and thus the torch passed to Western developers.

From what I've heard from all the threads on /v/ and the screenshots posted around release the devs lost the source code for the HD remake somehow and had to rush it all, making the game less scary cause the fog is almost non existant and there's a lot of bugs and glitches and on top of that the overall sound and voice acting is worse.
