GTA IV story was shit.
I enjoyed it for the MP, I prefer that over GTA V.
GTAV is objectively better than IV in almost every single way.
IV had a few neat touches that V lacked but that's basically it.

Look at Zelda, MGS (although they praise 4 this time for some reason, maybe because barely anyone here played PW), TES and Souls games for example.

On foot it was great in 4 when you used nig guns like the mac 10, ak47 and mini pump shotty.
It isn't. Niko's written as some tired veteran from the Balkans trying to find his life in USA, as a really sympathetic character.
Then he kills thousands of people and is manipulated by many and believes this is what he must do to find the man who killed his brother or some stupid shit. It's written like a terrible thriller movie.
GTA5 is just written as if it was a parody of shitty Hollywood movies, except it's somehow shittier than all of those movies. It's absolutely terrible but i'd say the modern GTA's are terrible because they try to take themselves so seriously.
Vice CIty and San Andreas were fine because they seemed like their inspiration was whatever wacky thing they could think of. They're written like a cult classic b-movie or something.

Every character pretty much seems to be in a GTA game. You just go to an icon on a map to get a cinematic have some character you probably just got introduced to tell you what to do.

My only complaint with IV right from the start was the lack of things to do and buy after a while. I always liked the game and now with V being out can say that I like IV more. That's not saying V was bad though.
How did Rockstar manage to fuck up GTAV so bad? They had THREE chances to make a good protagonist and they blew every chance.

I couldn't even get myself to complete IV's story it was so bad, V was actually compelling and fun.
I personally didn't enjoy IV's story much at all. It did have some neat TECHNOLOGY and I liked the police system more than V, but I felt overall the game was rather lackluster, especially lacking side content.

Last time I played it did, that was back when I still had my 7970, I got better performance in GTA V with it.
Replaying GTA4 recently I actually appreciated the story. I guess that the first time around I was more or less fresh of GTASA, so I ended up disappointed by the darker and more serious tones.
I enjoyed GTA5 too, though. I don't really know how to compare them since GTA5, having three protagonists, is much more dynamic but also disjointed.

I liked that they added checkpoints. I remember some missions where I'd be walking to the final destination, get hit by a car and then have to restart the entire mission.
That one PlayboyX missions where you have to drive across the city to take out a construction site made me quit the game the first time.
