Shill it to me, OP. I'm bored until Digimon comes out, been playing Monster Rancher 2 on emulator. Such a comfy game.

I never played a mystery dungeon game before and I was running around in the beginner dungeon not knowing what the fuck to do. I didn't know if it was turn based or if everything was timed and Foongus was giving me a blowjob until I died.
Trial and error. Artificial difficulty.

I'm honestly no good at shilling. All i can say is this is my first mystery dungeon game and I'm having a blast. The plot is crazy feel good and cozy, its reasonably challenging, crazy addicting, lots of content. It's just a good time.

Last of Us strangely. Game is far from the second coming of Christ a lot of people talked it up as and it has problems, but comfiness is not one them. The lighting and weather effects are gorgeous, the colors are surprisingly vibrant, the settings and situations are pretty good at staying varied and not overstaying thier welcome, and most importantly the survival aspects are well done.

Md games aren't really grindy. Does Super get grindy at post game? I've only gotten to chapter 12 so far

I mean, I guess it might have been possible if you came in expecting it or had an overpowered duo, but I was only doing ~40 damage per Fennekin Ember while Jirachi could heal for 150, while being at absolute best 3hkoed by Jirachi's attacks. Also, Mudkip was fucking useless since I had absolutely no enemas on my Defense Ringlet and Mud Bomb is stupid innacurate.

Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon is a challenging roguelike with a heavy emphasis on item usage and preparation before entering dungeons. Dungeons themselves are randomly generated and vary mostly in aesthetic appearance and music, although the types of Pokemon that appear and occasionally the style of the mazes/layout can differ. you might say that its a bit like Etrian Odyssey, only the dungeon design stays the same and you have a top down perspective instead of a first person perspective, and all battles take place on the map itself rather than in their own battle screen. When I say challenging, I mean that it pits you up against high leveled Pokemon early and often and can often fool you into going on a mission that winds up getting you ambushed by huge numbers of Pokemon while you're underleveled, and to succeed you must use items regularly and come prepared to dungeons with the appropriate items to handle any situation you might encounter.
The game has a really strong storyline, on par with high class JRPGs has got gorgeous music comparable to some of the best out there. PSMD in particular is about you, a human who awoke as a Pokemon with no memories of his past, who makes friends with another Pokemon in a nearby town and lives out your days while solving daily Pokemon's problems and helping your partner to achieve his dream of joining the Expedition Society, a team of explorers out solving individual Pokemon's daily problems in dungeons while trying to create a fully functional world map. All the while, a great terror is starting to befall the world, and you'll eventually have to find out why and put a stop to it. It sounds really simple, but in actuality its a hell of a lot more complicated but I don't want to spoil it. Its got lots of twists though, and due to the fact that it spends a hell of a lot of time fleshing out the characters and giving them all distinct, likable personalities, the story comes out strong. (1/2)

How do I get into this game? First mystery dungeon. I haven't gotten very far, just beat school dungeon and gabite in the treasure cave. It doesn't really seem that fun, dungeons are a bit boring, I'm sure it will pick up r-right?

You're retarded. I was 6 when I first played a PMD game and it made perfect sense to me, and PMD games back then barely even had a tutorial, while this one has a 6 chapter long tutorial. Fuck you.
If you ran into a Foongus and got hit and noticed your HP was lowering you would probably know to move away from it. Nuzleaf also explained a good bit of shit to you. You just screwed up. There is no artificial difficulty here and certainly no trial and error. It explains EVERYTHING to you. The fact that you see enemies move as you move should tell you that turns happen simultaneously. You're like idiots who think they need to be explained to push a button to jump in Mario to avoid dying from a Goomba.
>>321848017
>>321841012

I will warn you though, the game has a LONG tutorial so you might find yourself a bit bored for a little while. Stick through past chapter 6 and it really picks up. The story starts moving once you leave town. (2/2)

The counters are to use orbs and seeds. You don't need revival seeds. Its all about item usage and preparation before dungeon crawling. You should get used to using things like Totter Orbs to confuse all enemies in the room and blast seeds to do massive damage to enemies.
>Are stat debuffs worth using in this game
Stat buffs are more useful, but yes.
>>321848031
It picks up after chapter 6. It picks up even more once you leave town. If you don't like it by the time you leave town, drop it.
>>321847559
But this game is not comparable to normal Pokemon games.
>>
>>321847519
Use pledge moves, they are really effective.
Fire and Grass pledge cause a debuff to all enemies int he room that does a percentile damage over time, can do like 300 damage to bosses.
The other buffs that occur if you use all 3 at once are one that slows enemis and one that buffs your team
>>
>>321848781
nah, id say drop it if you still dont like it after the jirachi fight

Instead of getting allies on your team at random while traveling dungeons, they instead join you every time you complete a mission for them. You don't get rewarded in items and money anymore; instead, its their friendship/their joining your team.

Standard attacks now do next to nothing in damage, forcing you to use moves and pay more attention to PP usage.

You level up MUCH more slowly and get pit up against extremely high leveled Pokemon much more quickly, forcing you to use items in dungeons.

The story is more complicated, but takes longer to get moving. Everything is much slower paced.
>>321849447
Because Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games are comparable to some of the best JRPGs ever made and are almost nothing like normal Pokemon games.

Yeah, the series has a great atmosphere to it, though I think mainline does too. Shame for PMD once the stories end and the NPC's become static forever, that always puts a big hamper on things considering they usually change throughout the game.

Not an NAfag so don't have the game yet. Bought this in the mean time. I've never played a non-Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game, so it was a bit different than what I expected. Main problem with it is the lack of an actual town to travel around like in the PMDs. It's still pretty fun though.
