Good morning/afternoon/evening fellow anons.
I was recently playing some competitive CS:GO and after winning a game, (I was the second-fragger on the team) I had been deranked! I decided to look into the matter and have found out that there has been a change to the way ranking works in competitive. I'm really not in favor with this update and it seems like there are a lot of people out there that share the same opinion.
Personally, this update has made it far too hard to go back up and it seems as though many of the experienced/good players are now in the GN-MG ranks and are making even harder to win! (At the time, I reached MG2, now I'm GN2!) I'd like to hear from my fellow anons. Share your thoughts!

I am all for improving the rank distribution but just reset everyone's rank or something, dont just force them to derank

Thanks for your thoughts. I too am all up for the improvement of the rankings and your idea isn't too bad. However, If they were to reset everyone, they should also remove the 2 game cooldown so everyone can reach their ranks faster.
Went from LEM to MGE, I don't play too seriously anyway. My past 10 matches I played drunk.

I try not to play too seriously but I was still kind of disappointed with the fact that I had tried really hard to get to a high rank so for them to just knock me down and then make it INCREDIBLY hard to go back up, made me a bit frustrated. Thanks for your input.
The update is fucking bullshit.
I win 7 games in a row, don't move up from MG, then I lose 6 fucking games in a row, don't derank, then I win one then lose one and I end up going down to GNM.

A rank is nothing but a relative mean to rate yourself among others. So if you and all players of your skill level deranked why would it change anything?
As long as players better than you are ranked above and players worse than you are ranked below then the system is working fine. Who fucking cares if GN2 is the new MG2.

If you got deranked then you didn't deserve to be at that rank. The update just fixes it so the distribution is where it always was before everybody got rank increases; GNM is now the average again. You're still playing against the same people, but now higher ranks don't have to deal with a huge skill jump within their own rank.
This means absolutely nothing to low-rank players except maybe hurting their ego or giving them more to shoot for. I'm happy that Global is once again something of an accomplishment.

As silly as it sounds, there are some people out there that take pride in being a high rank. Also, it's not like everyone is being deranked because they lost. Some people including myself were deranked even though I won the match. Usually when you win a match, you don't expect to go down in rank, you expect to go up. It would be more understandable if I had lost horribly and then gotten deranked. Winning means that you get to compete against higher-skilled opponents. I see where you're coming from but look at it from my perspective considering that I didn't even lose the initial first match. Thanks for your thoughts.

Except that I was lowered even when I won. Not to forget that I also was second on the leader board. Global has always been a huge accomplishment in my opinion. Take away all the hackers, if you're global, you're one of the best in your region and that must be a great feeling.

I'm fairly certain that the game never deranks on a win regardless of how bad you do. It's why people are complaining about getting deranked after huge winstreaks. Either way, your rank doesn't reflect your actual rating, and you're still being paired with people at your skill level.

Global might be a huge accomplishment in your opinion, but plenty of globals would disagree. Every day somebody complained about the huge skill variance, when people who didn't deserve GE would get 16-0'd by better players, or how they didn't see how somebody couldn't be GE or at least SMFC with the welfare ranks. Numerous people were asking for more ranks or something added to Global because of this.

Unfortunately, any good FPS (like R6:Siege, QuakeLive, Natural Selection 2) has a dead community. Just remember, CS:GO is popular thanks to third world chimps, not because it's actually the best competitive shooter around.

It all depends on how good you did in the previous games. If you did good, there is a chance it may place you high and then you'll begin to derank and if you did decent, it probably wouldn't hurt you.
Idk I'm not too good yet but I got de-ranked from N3 to N2 and that pissed me off a bit. I still don't know how the godamn rankings even work.
Spoiler alert: Valve actively fucks with ranking metrics in their games, they do not have anything straightforward like Elo or Glicko going on.

I agree with this. If they reset everyone's rank it would create a fresh new excitement in the game, since everyone would feel like they have a shot at the top regardless of what their previous rank was (even though it's not true)
