I feel bad for people who lose their fighting mains when sequels come out. It hasn't happened to me yet and I'm actually surprised that Axl-Low returned when about half of the Guilty Gear cast got cut out with the move to Xrd. "I" like Axl, he's the only charge character in fighting games that I'm good at playing and I can't play Guile/Bison for shit, but I was always under the assumption that he wasn't a popular character.
I ended up learning Chun Li since along with Ryu (who everybody knows how to use to a certain extent anyway) they're the 2 most consistent characters in SF and Capcom crossover games.

What should I play to get myself ready for SFV? I want to get some solid fundamentals down so my Mika game is on point when the game launches.
As it stands, I am about 2.5k with Thaddeus Hawk in SFIV but I'm pretty shit with almost any other character. I beat Brolylegs once and that was a moment for me.

Hamas is a well designed character that most appreciate as a nice deviation to the conventional SF formula. His problem is that though he was built into IV, he'd shine more in a game like Alpha 3 or 3S.

SFV plays quite a bit like SFxT. A lot of the new characters, and new mechanics for older characters, feel like they came straight from SFxT. R. Mika especially has several of the same normals as King from that game, as well as a similar feel in terms of movement. Karin feels a lot like a mix of Asuka and Lily, and Laura is similar to Nina. SFxT was also a lot more about footsies and hit confirms, like SFV is shaping up to be.

I'm not the guy who's complaining about step kick (personally, I have bigger problems with U2 shutting down most of my options), but when I play againt Abel, I jump after or during step kick. Even if the kick pegs me in mid air, anything is better than him getting his 50/50, because as soon as he gets knockdown on Balrog, the round is pretty much over.

For future fighter DLC they'll probably prioritise fan favorites and characters that weren't in SF4. Oro is a relatively safe bet in the latter category and there aren't very many characters left to pick from anyway.
