I liked FONS because it kinda inverted some standard Shonen themes. Like when Ken fought Raoh the first time. Everyone kept saying he wasn't strong enough, they forshadowed that Ken was going to get his shit slapped and I thought it was gonna be some standard "hero gets shit slapped, becomes stronger later" stuff.. He actually gave Raoh a hard time during the first fight..
