All I have are super smash brothers, Hyrule warriors, Mario Kart 8, and whatever the Super Mario game that isn't a traditional side scroller... I knew it was a risk to get Harbor warriors for the genre and it didn't work out for me so I never play it I only ever play Mario Kart 8 when girlfriend is around and I've plateaued at Super Smash Brothers and find no more joy since I am NOT getting any better with the current amount of play time I invest... What hope do I have for another game anons?
>>

What kind of games do you like?
>>
Bought Xenoblade Chronicles (the original Wii one) on the eShop for £18

Pretty cool game so far

what does /v/ think of it, I sort of never really entered threads etc. to do with it when it originally came out
>>
>>321821776
Rpgs, (currently playing through nwn2 campaigns), traditional platformers, casual pvp games

Pretty happy, every year I've been getting consistently good exclusives.
>>
I started to regret my purchase, but I recently got Xenoblade X, and holy shit I played 80 hours so far and still haven't seen half the game. Just finished chapter 10, and there is still so much to do.

Today I bought Splatoon, played 5 matched and it is fun as hell so far. A few weeks ago I bought DK Tropical Freeze, but I'm just in world 3 so far.

I've been enjoying my Wii U way more than my PS4, which to me is basically a Bloodborne machine.
>>
>>321822000
>traditional platformers, casual pvp games
Get Splatoon. It has some platforming elements, and the online isn't very intense. Of course you can make it more competitive.
>>
>>321819431
It's "the Smash Bros Machine" for me, and nothing else.
>>
Pretty much, i love smash, mario kart and soon i'll have Xenoblade, also own NSMBU+LU, Bayonetta1&2 and WWHD(haven't played it yet)

It's gotten next to no games this year, and I've still played it pretty much 100 times more than my PS4, which saw one run of Bloodborne and that's it. I'll get the DLC soon though

Probably the most played out of my other consoles and PC. Xenoblade X easily got 200hours in the passed few weeks. There was also MK8, Mario Maker, Smash and Splatoon. So pretty good year.
>>

Pfft, boring and generic as fuck.

Just because a Platformer has platforming doesn't make a "generic". You just don't like Platformers.

Yea, I have. I got Splatoon on black friday and have been having fun with that. I got Yoshi's Wooly World and that is a ton of fun too, and super comfy. Mario Maker is still great too.
>>
>>321823538
I like non- generic and fun platformers, not the piece of trash you mentioned.
>>
>>321823431
It's really fast paced, challenging, and every single level is unique though.
It didn't quite grab me during the first world, maybe you didn't play very far
>>
>>321823694
>I like non- generic and fun platformers

such as?
>>
>>321823538
Not the guy you're arguing with, but I prefer generic. Anything else and you get silly attempts to reinvent the wheel -- straying from the path of "generic" graced the video game industry with wagglan and paid DLC.
>>
>>321823694
What do you think is a more fun platformer?
Do you like the Meat Boy / Dustforce genre more?
Or collectathons?
I absolutely loved TF, so I don't really get you

I've been a Wii U fag from the beginning. Got it when it had just been released. I have practically every Wii U exclusive, sans Wooly World.

I got a PS4 for Xmas and I've been bouncing back from Metal Gear and Destiny to Xenoblade X and Mario Maker. Vidya is pretty good these days.
>>
>>321821960
I'm pretty casual, but it's my favorite game. I only have it for N3DS though.
>>
Just got a Wii U as a gift from my roommate with Smash, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart, Nintendoland, and Kirby rainbow curse. Was PC only before and having a lot of fun with the exclusives. Not even sure where to expand from here, was thinking either Xenoblade, Pikmin 3, Mario Party, or Splatoon. Not sure whether I should play the original Xeno/Pikmin first though.

For y'all other Wii U owners, are any of the amiibos worth it, or are they pretty negliable?
>>
Yes I just got Yoshi's Woolly World for christmas and it's pretty good so far IMO. Reminds me a lot of the DKCR games.

Just got Xenoblade today.
Chapter 3 and its pretty fun so far.
I love how you can break enemy parts to get certains drops.
But I think they could have done a better job with the divisions. You can join any and literally do jobs for all of them at the same time. Whats the point??
>>
>>321824958
I'm a big Nintendrone and I haven't even thought about getting an amiibo
>>
>>321824958
you don't really have to care about amiibos. if there's a character you really like and want a figure of, get it, and you might get special skins in a few games, other than that w/e. i guess theyre sort of fun in smash if you pick your main so you can train it well but its more of a novelty
>>
Been playing Hyrule Warriors all day. Really fun. After that I want to jump back into Xenoblade.
>>
>>321824958

buy one if you like the idea of a cute little figure on your desk. the digital perks are pretty negligible. if you like link, his amiibo unlocks a weapon in HW. i personally never play as link in that game so i don't have one.
>>
>>321824958
Amiibo are pretty negligible barring the few games built around them like amiibo festival

also XenoCX is not really all that related to the original so you jump into either
>>
Just picked up one with Mario Kart bundled in and also bought Mario Maker. The controller is charging right now. I'll most likely pick up Smash and maybe Splatoon sometime soon.
>>
>>321819431
For most of it's life it was MH3U machine for me. Got Lego City, Mario 3D world, Smash. Still sometimes playing Bayo 1,2 and Hyrule Warriors. Got Xenopotato girls X and Mario Shiller recently, I'm pretty happy with that.

Depending on what you find most enjoyable, it'll be easier to buff up your BLADE level which allows you to upgrade your field skills and upgrade your reward ticket max (both of which you're going to want) also allows you more options in your barracks

Upgrade your mechanical skill first if you don't want to suffer through what I put up with.

And be sure to get the "off the record" missions from the mission board to up the skills to lv5 once you have one at lv4 (there's one mission for each type), nothing more annoying than reaching a probe spot or finding a hard to reach treasure and you can't obtain it.

Ah

Is it fairly casual/easy all the way through?
I'm not really an expert at RPG's at all and kind of lean towards the less 'indepth' ones and enjoy the more colourful kinda worlds etc. (Blue Dragon, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest 8- although I did find DQ8 quite hard)

I just like a good story and cool world pretty much, I hate getting stuck in RPGs and having to grind my ass off

if Xenoblade is a bit on the easier side then I'm all for it as casual as that sounds, I've just never been that great at RPGs

I won't need the disc drive to be functional when I turn it into a piracy machine.
>>
>>321829660
I wouldn't say xenoblade is an easy game to get into at all.

Different guy here, but some of the later shit will throw you for a loop if you don't dedicate some time and effort into learning the games mechanics

>>321830042

>>321829660
I'm kinda the same, I'm not a fan of getting way too in depth with RPGs and XCX took me about 8 hours to understand but I just absolutely love exploring and discovering/finding things that everything else is just a bonus IMO and Mira is such an incredible place to explore

Yeah, they estimate 100$ repair if it's a hardware problem. So I might as well just wait for the exploits.

Oddly enough, Bayonetta 1 works well during actual gameplay, but during cutscenes it lags bad and the sound doesn't sync with what's going on. So it seems there's something wrong with the drive. Unfortunately, Bayonetta 2 doesn't get recognized at all. I never even got to play it.

I'm surprised the Wii U isn't more popular with girls considering it has 3 of the most unbelievably cute games in existence with Capt Toad, Woolly World, and Rainbow Curse

The VC has been shit on the 3DS as well, in fact I don't think there's been any new games added to it for months now.

I was really hoping that Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings would have come to the 3DS as well.
>>
I haven't bought a game for it since, fuck, probably Sm4sh. And I barely played that.

I'm still playing MK8 once in a while with friends though, and I recently went back to 100% complete Bayonetta 2 and had fun. Might pick up FAST Racing Neo on the eshop at some point.
>>
>>321831267
I've just finished chapter 5, myself. Currently getting bodied by that huge monster at the end of the affinity mission for Lao you need to take before Chapter 6.

I've managed to stay pretty spoiler-free for this game, so the whole Mim revelation was a pretty cool moment, even though I took one look at the Eye customization in the Character Creator and said "So I'm some kind of android then."

This game is fucking great. It's like Monster Hunter got James Cameron's Avatar pregnant and the child grew up next door to FFXIV.

How do you build affinity between you and your team members in XCX?
>>
>>321831889
Its really good. I was a little scared when back in april we learned a lot about how it wasn't related to the original and wasn't too story heavy. Thing is, there's a lot of story there, but it in side content.

I don't remember that Lao mission but keep track of your skills. Equip them according to the situation (equip anti-humanoid for prone enemies, mechanical for skells, etc.) You're about to unlock skells, so there it will become more bearable for bosses.
>>
Is Splatoon a good buy? Just got Mario Maker and Wooly for the holidays so Im wondering if I should get Splatoon when Im burnt out of these two
>>
>>321833040
Have them in your party. Answer the soul voices and complete missions with them. Rotate them for basic missions. Elma and Lin are only required for story chapters, so you're guaranteed to reach 5 hearts pretty early in the game.
>>
Haven't played it since February.
>>
>>321833161
yes its great
>>
>>321833161

Somewhat divisive. The core gameplay is solid and pretty fun, but some people aren't fans of the forced Animal Crossing-like schedule when it comes to the map rotation in online play. The single player has some unique music, maybe four hours or so of neat platforming and at least one challenging/fun boss, just know that the focus is primarily online multiplayer so don't expect a shitload of stuff to do outside of that.
>>
>>321833161
Singleplayer is fun, but short and easy. It's a good way to get used to the controls, though.
Multiplayer is fantastic. It's as competitive as you want it to be, lots of customization, new content every now and then and just plain fun.

Also, the game has a very charming artstyle and localization. I like it a lot.
>>
>>321833045
It's the one about Lao's team. There's a giant rock-faced primate-looking fucker with a shitload of health that keeps doing a jump attack and wiping everyone but Lin at the 1/3 hp mark, and Lin, being the potato-faced dipshit that she is, never revives team mates, and instead just unloads with her minigun until the timer runs out.

Level isn't the issue, I'm level 20 and the enemy is lvl17, it's just an issue of using the correct skills and figuring out his gimmick (breaking his head seems to drastically lower his defense, but I feel like there's more to it than that) and I'll have him beat.

>>321833161
Splatoon is a genuine delight. my only issue is, as of the last time I played, the lack of regionlock for online play. I was getting really sick of getting my shit pushed in by Japs with golden airbrushes and samurai helmets.
>>
Love it. Played through 3d world, pikmin 3 and lotsa Mario kart with my gf- doing wooly world currently. enjoyed wwhd, mh3u, bayo1+2(not done) and played an ungodly amount of smash.

I'll get xenoblade after I finish chronicles on 3ds (still have to find a deal...)

Otherwise, contemplating hyrule warriors or splatoon. Can you coop those?
>>
>>321834035
but youd just get your shit pushed in by americans (or europeans) with golden airbrushes and samurai helmets

aerospray isnt even that good anyways (but it is fun to play in turf wars)
>>
>>321832702

I bought the 3D world Wii U bundle for $250 as a birthday present for myself at the beginning of the year and since then I've gotten the following

-Smash
-MK8
-Hyrule Warriors
-DKTF (free from Club N)
-W101 (free from Club N)
-Splatoon
-Mario Maker
-Xenoblade X
-Bayonetta 1/2

I've been loving every second of my Wii U and even convinced two of my other friends to get one. I feel like I actually like video games again.
>>
>>321834329
Aerospray was made for turf wars, huge point totals.

Breaking monsters limbs provides different drops and stop some of their attacks. Try to farm Irina pham. She is more of a healer than Potato, but weak as fuck. It will provide you with buffs and TP.

>what games is it similar to?
none in specific, but it's an experimental take on the character action genre
>>
>>321819431

i'm convinced the wii u will be looked back on as a cult favourite.

so far the best game library of the gen.. but totally overlooked.
>>
>>321835816
The gameplay, while it gets a rough start, is fluid and enjoyable. The story is just pure enjoyable, hammy fun, with a perfect escalation of force from running around with a couple dozen Wonders to work with, to all 101 of your Wonders being in Giant Fucking Robots while you, in your own giant robot, transform them into even giant-er robot fists to punch space ships.

To condense it into the simplest possible terms:

The Wonderful 101 is a game about PROTECTING THE FUCKING EARTH. It projects an atmosphere of pure heroism and adventure, and, the first half-hour of clunk aside, is something you will enjoy for the entire ride. It's a game that doesn't take itself too seriously, and delivers pure, uncut delight.

Finally, W101 schools every western game of the past two decades on how you design a motherfucking QTE.
>>
The only game I'm really enjoying on it is xenoblade, though I'm really fucking liking that one. I prefer smash on my 3ds and the other noteworthy wii u games seem to have a lacking singleplayer/platformers I don't enjoy.

Not bad for the price I got it for in all.

Gameplay:
A really unique control scheme and combat system that is also deep as hell. Every enemy type has a specific set of weaknesses/method of beating forcing you to think your way through a little bit instead of the usual hack and slash doldrums.

Other:
Over the top in every way. Boss fights, cut scenes, characters, plot line all ridiculous. Power rangers satire on steroids.

What way did you guys input your shapes? I drew them with my finger quickly just because it was faster to do but I'm on the fence as to whether the stick is superior.
>>
I really fucking need to be at home playing Splaton right now and instead I'm stuck at work for another 4 hours.

I haven't changed weapons in a while, I always use the slosher because it's fun I guess. What weapons should I try next? I never used a sniper weapon.
>>
>>321836852
I used the stick during normal level play and used the touch screen during the cutscenes

I dunno why I guess I just like using both
>>
>>321836181
Is the niche console in the age of mainstream videogames. Is not my fave Nintendo console by far, but at least has preserved that old school feeling mostly intact (besides extremely little games and toys with NFC).

Bought an Xbone in November as a present for gf because she loved playing GoW on 360. 2, 3, 4 backwards compat literally would not run after a couple of weeks. Well known bug etc. Went round and round with Microsoft support, horrible and unhelpful. Sat collecting dust (got Shadow of Mordor for me, she wasn't into it).

Finally decided to trade it for a Wii U MK8 bundle + Woolly World. She's addicted to both and we've been having a blast. Should never have listened to the "dead system no games" meme.

For a couple of working professionals who want to play a couple of hours after work or on Friday/Saturday...the system is fantastic. Just pure, buttery smooth fun.
>>
>>321837127
Woolly World seems like the ultimate bf/gf game
>>
>>321835816
Without getting into the specifics of controls and story, I can relate a very simple anecdote:

There was a point in this game where I found myself holding the controller at arms length away from myself, pressed into the back of my seat, completely tense, going "Whoa..."

From that point on, for the rest of the entire game, that "Woah" underwent a slow but sure increase in volume that never fucking slowed or stopped, until the end of the game, where I was screaming "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

The key word is Escalation.
>>
>>321836963
Try the longest ranger sniper (I forget the name). I thought it was fun for a while, but I dislike the "kills only" aspect of sniping and would rather be painting up the map to actually win the game.

I'm partial to the blaster weapons and sometimes the gatling gun. I'd try them all at least a couple times; one of the things I really liked about splatoon was how differentiated the playstyles of the different weapon types are.

Started playing my backlog of games from the Club Nintendo fiasco.

I'm really enjoying DKTF.

Got around to paying $2 to play Paper Mario for the first time on my Wii U. I'm really digging it. Probably playing this the most right now.

I tried starting W101. Not really interested in it but I'll give more time to see if my mood changes.
>>
>>321837527
I know what you mean. Although I play very little Turf Wars and I love Splat Zones and Rainmaker the most. In those cases, painiting isn't as crucial.

Are you talking about the E-liter 3K?

May try a sniper or the Splash-o-matic which looks cool despite the lack of damage.

Anyone think the Wii U will be hoghly sought after in 5-10 years? Kinda like the Dreamcast i guess.

Creative games, smooth interface, overlooked and crowded out by Xbone/PS4. I feel like they are going to hold their value pretty well on the second hand market in a few years.

Am i nuts?

How does that compare to the Gamecube sales?

It seems like history looks back on that system quite favorably, but when I was a kid all my friends had PS2 or Xbox, i don't think I knew anyone who had a Gamecube. Maybe the same will happen with the Wii U
>>
>>321845672
I don't think so. Unlike the Dreamcast, Nintendo will make a follow up to the Wii U, which could be backwards compatible. I also feel like patches and Amiibos will negatively influence the Wii U's value in the long term.

Gamecube sold a lot more, like 22 million. And had more variety in the catalog.
