Have played all 3, I think they are average, same with the whole FF franchise.
VIII had Rinoa as the forced romance while Quistis has faded into obscurity.

Also fuck Amarant and that loli, also Dagger losing her voice because of something I can't remember. Also that part where your dumped in the myst island with people like Freya who you haven't used in 10 hours so they are all about level 18 whilst Zidane is level 40 and you have to grind them all up.
I just found the whole thing a boring mess that seemed to not know what it wanted to be.

How is it any less exciting than ff8/7? I found starting with a thief and learning skills from equipment really interesting since in pretty much every other jrpg you just buy whatever has the highest stats at each new town and sell your old equipment, ff9 actually forced you to think about your equipment.

They're two parts of one game. Sonic 3 takes place in the lower areas of the island, setting up game mechanics and setting, with lots of water. Sonic and Knuckles has the more varied environments IMO, taking place closer to the centre of the island and generally having more epic set-pieces (Lava Reef's boss, Hidden Palace, Sky Sanctuary, Doomsday etc).
Sonic and Knuckles is great, but it works so well because it complements Sonic 3. In my opinion Sonic 3 is a 7/10, Sonic & Knuckles is an 7.5/10 but together they make a 10/10 - in terms of Sonic games, that is.

The combat and gameplay was the best part of the game. I really enjoy the characters being specific classes and learning different spells rather than everyone is just the same but limit breaks. The equip-item skill-learning is really fun too because it has you trying out different weapons and Hironobou Sakaguchi understood that so he re-used it as the Immortal-Mortal-Link-Learning system in Lost Odyssey.
The combats are more fun too since you have four characters instead of three.
