I never really got the multiplayer in civ. It takes so fucking long.
That said, play one game against bots and you should be fairly prepared for what the average multiplayer experience is.

Yeah you can save your game obviously. There are different game speeds, quick, normal, epic and marathon. Quick games are over 2-4 hours and marathon can end up taking your whole weekend.

If you want to play online, play short duels with random people or play a long game with friends. Do not, DO NOT, play long games with with randoms. There is no point to that.
The length of a game depends on the settings, and yes you can save multiplayer games and come back to it when you and your friends want to resume your save file.

The multiplayer is bugged as fuck and they will never fix it. Enjoy randomly hanging, people dropping, and of course, the epic EPIC save file corruption that will make marathon games literally impossible with more than 2 people.

an inquisitor is one use only but when used on your own city it will instantly reconvert it, missionaries are multi-use but might not convert it all the way
great prophets will convert it almost entirely back, have 4 uses but they have an increasing cost
you can buy the units with your own faith in any city that still follows your original religion or if all your cities are converted, any great prophet created will be of your original religion, regardless of what your cities are currently following
also for the future: having an inquisitor stationed inside a city will prevent that city from being force-converted even by prophets

You need your own religion present in that town at all, even 1%, to purchase missionaries of your relgion
also BEFORE you reconvert your city, check if the religion its following has any unique buildings and try to build them first

I've never, ever played a civilization game or anything with strategy on it at all. A few years ago I thought it was kind of boring shit, used to action games and shit where I don't have to think too much, or where I -only- have to think.
However a while ago I watched a stream of it, and to be completely fair, being a "player" in that game felt pretty sweet. I must try the demo now that I know there is one.

To those that want to play wide games, your city locations have to be on point, and they have to benefit from a big strong religion. You have to go wide as shit from the start to secure luxuries at the far flung areas will become your borders

Certain factions can reliably farm city states for endless exp, like the persians. That comes with a limiting factor though of if you're at war with more than one city state it gets harder to be friends with all of them. Decent drawback. Barbarians are just for farming 2 level ups.
