I love the localisation of the DQ games its the right way to do "changing to suit an audience" because the jokes and accentsfrom what I understandare changed but the overall theme and attitude of the game and its humor are the same.
Square used to have fun with their games dialogue too. I'm currently replaying FFX and the Guado ask if you can tell them apart and say that humans all look alike to them.

Accents are meh at times. Dragon Quest 4 is really when they tried to put accents as a major thing and it did not work out AT ALL. Hell I would say it made me almost hate the series because of how badly done the accents are in that game. DQ5 and onward have minor things here and there like Bianca having a pseudo hick accent. But for the most part its all done well enough. Really it's the puns that are all over the place that sometimes gets me. Dragon Quest 9 is nothing but puns all over the place.

I get you. I don't think there was any accents in DQ6 nor 9 (please tell me if I'm wrong). I think they saw people's reaction to the accents and every so slightly tried to tone them down. And nothing in DQ5 is anywhere close to the shit DQ4 gave us. I have never seen a localization done as badly as that. It made one of my favorite NES game into one of my most hateful DS game. I seriously wish someone did a fan translation of either the PSX or DS version. Because if any game needs a complete overhaul it's that.

But I'm a guy that love really dumb jokes like that. As for Joker 2 I say 1 is fun but 2 does do a lot of things better. Sadly we didn't get professional which has more monsters and other extra stuff. As for Heroes I've heard its pretty fun. It's not really a musou game so don't be looking for something like Hyrule Warriors but with DQ. And the fun service I've heard is amazing.

their personalities are also different, and regardless of which one you pick they will be in your party anyway, although the one you don't pick temporarily leaves your party for a few missions
