Been playing pic related and its kicking the shit out of me. I've never played a mystery dungeon game before, so I may be doing something wrong, but it seems like everythings able to kill you I'm 1 or 2 hits.
Right now I'm at the beedrill/combee fight and I keep running out of healing and revive items and dying.
I need some help giys
>>321728964
It's not just you. I'm stuck just after that, at the Poliwrath fight. It's kind of ridiculous.
Does it seem like type-advantages aren't really doing shit for you? Because that's what it feels like for me.
>>321729463
Quite the opposite, I got a turtwig (figured I'd just go with what they gave me) and I find I'm running into quite a bit of flying types early on and its fucking me up.
Guess these games are ment to be a good challenge.
But in terms of my attacks. I find going for same type attack bonus tends to be more effective
>>321729642
I meant more your super-effective attacks not doing much more than they do normally against foes. I have a Bulbasaur, and I get beatten pretty fast by flying types too.
Explorers of Sky wasn't nearly as hard as this. Don't know about Gates to Infinity, as I stopped playing that rather soon after I started.
>>321728964
You think that's bad, I had a DSP moment at the beginning where you have to touch the screen to chose your pokemon. I kept on tapping it when I should have been holding down and it took me about three minutes to figure it out,
The intro screen kicked the shit out of me.
>>321729917
Finally beat the bedrill fight.
I think the part of the problem was I forgot all about the alliance attacks or whatever they're called. I kinda dismissed them at first because they felt kinda stupid but Jesus Christ do the fuck shit
>>321730130
It's OK anon, I'm almost certain everyone has a DSP moment every once and a while.
>>321728964
take orbs and staves along, they are all valuable. The first 3 bosses you are forced to use them or rely on dumb luck.
>>321730152
Fuck, I forgot about those too. Probably because I'm too wary about gaining hunger, but boss fights would be perfect for them.
Also, does it seem like moves tend to flat out miss a lot more than they should?
>>321729463
I just used the orb that confuses all pokemon in the room and they basically just all killed eachother
>>321728964
I used a confusion orb immediately when i got to that fight. Im not sure i would have made it without it
>>321730398
My god yes, sometimes it feels like only a quarter of my moves hit.
I really wanna say no to mudkip, just to see what his reaction will be, but itll be almost heartbreaking
>>321730525
I used a confuse orb on the Beedrill fight and it was hilarious, they all sweet scented themselves so Double team wouldn't do shit. Absolutely destroyed them with Totodile/Chespin. Poliwraths were a joke too with Keep-away Staff. The only trouble I've actually had so far were the Litwicks as far as boss fights go
>>321730525
Wait, orbs work in boss fights now?
Well shit.
>>321730675
do it anon, break his heart.
I recently beat the game and found it on-par with Explorers of Time/Dark/Sky
Post your face whenI'm Mew
>>321730675
IIRC you can pick No, but your own character will actually refuse to say it and then force you to pick yes instead.
>>321730947
pls no spoil we haven't gotten that far
>>321730130
I did that too. But it was a solid 5 minutes of me getting angrier and angrier until I realized my slower presses made more of the damn sparkles.
>>321730736
Yeah, a lot of the bosses are mob fights in SMD but it was probably a stupid choice in the long run. You can abuse it with so many fights
>>321728964
Would it be a good idea to conserve orbs and revival seeds for boss battles?
>>321731332
Yes. Use wands for dungeons mostly. You have an easier time getting enemies singled out there. Bosses being mobs in mostly single room floors make orbs too useful.
>>321731332
Not really, if there are pokemon on the floors with shit like Razor Wind you will want to use orbs. The game constantly gives you them anyway just like tiny revives
>>321728964
Whats your character/partner?
I've been out of the Mystery Dungeon franchise since Explorers of Time. Is this one worth getting?
>>321731624
Yes, it's nearly as good as EoS
>>321731624
People say it's the best one but the leveling is slow as balls in frozen molasses and you'll more than likely get your shit pushed in on multiple occasions.
Real talk, who actually chose to play Darkness over Time?
>>321731624
While some of the many bad design choices they made in GtI weren't seen to, yes, it is worth getting.
>>321731606
Treecko with Piplup as partner
>>321731332
They're good for specific situations and you probably don't need more than one of a specific type.
I carry an Escape Orb for when I'm out of items to go on, Rollcall Orb to get the team back together in case some sort of unfortunate warping occurs, Revive All Orb for when shit happens and I'm out of Reviver Seeds, and a Petrify Orb if I need a room full of enemies to be taken out one at a time.
I think Wands are better to stock up on since they're much more easier to find. I take Stayaway, Petrify, Warp, and Confuse Wands to deal with single enemies that I want to go away, especially if they have ranged attacks and are whooping me from far away. Pounce Wands are good for travelling long distances especially to reach emeras on time, Guiding Wands find the stairs when I'm in no mood to dillydally, and Tunnel Wands are useful for making straight paths.
>mfw Mega Evolution
I knew this shit was going to be a double edged sword but I never expected that to happen
>>321731904
With only 24 items you can carry at a time, it seems like such a major limit. I've found myself with not enough.
>>321730947
Fuck, I clicked the spoil.
I havent played a game in a long ass time that hasnt been spoiled for me ;_;
>>321731857
To this day I have no idea how darkness is different from time.
So I know a lot of the mystery dungeon games released two at a time.
Is it like regular pokemon where theyre the same game just with different available pokemon or are they entirely different games?
>>321732056
Its rough, but later in the story you get a larger bag. I can carry 40 items currently.
>>321732068
It's your fault
>>321732056
Don't worry about getting every type. Pretty much the Stayaway Wands need to be your first priority, with Rollcall Orbs being the second. Otherwise it's just convenience and staying one step ahead of everything.
>>321732070
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Mystery_Dungeon:_Explorers_of_Time_and_Explorers_of_Darkness#Version-exclusive_Pok.C3.A9mon
Goddamn this games plot is comfy.
Lying in bed snuggled up in a blanket playing this shit. Absolute perfection
My first mystery dungeon game too.
I guess I was hoping for more RPG elements and strategic team building like Pokemon has. It just feels like babbys first roguelike.
>>321730947
>yfwthe credits is just you crying
>>321732594
>babbys first roguelike
You must be great at rougelikes anon. The general consensus seems to be the game is pretty hard.
>>321732236
Blue and Red rescue teams are a bit special in this because Red was for GBA while Blue was for DS.
Time and Darkness are virtually indistinguishable, a handful of version exclusive pokemon and items to each. Sky is the third version, the "Emerald" to Time and Darkness' "Ruby and Sapphire". Same storyline, better UI and more features and dungeons.
Gates to Infinity and Super Mystery Dungeon are completely seperate.
>>321732708
So basically if I'm going to play the other other ones play blue, sky, and avoid gates to infinity
>>321732426
Thanks.
>>321732804
Pretty much.
Sky remains one of my favourite games period.
Do you need a "new" 3ds for this one?
>>321732978
Nope.
>>321732978
No, best part is, all the pokemon models seem to be ripped straight out of X and Y but they actually gave the game a good graphics engine.
I honestly really liked the pokemon models in those games so a lot of this game has been eye candy for me
I also just picked up the game. Just finishedthe haunted school part. But I can not for the life of me figure out how to turn in place.
Also post quiz results.
>>321733456
>turn in place
Just hold Y and move your stick. Thought Nuzleaf went over that.
I WANT /v/ TO LEAVE
>>321733456
Got Torchic and Chikorita.
I don't have a death wish so I swapped Chikorita with Piplup.
>>321728964
Abuse items.
>>321733456
I got Chikorita and Riolu. Then I said "fuck that" and made it Bulbasaur and Riolu.
>>321733774
>Kek Shekel
>Uses a golem Pokémon
Makes sense.
>>321733456
Charmander and Chikorita
couldn't deal with it and picked Totodile and Chespin instead, regret absolutely nothing. Totodile's constant T-pose is amazing and Chespin is a God tier partner andadorable
also, motherfucking Rage
>>321733456
I got Fennekin and Pikachu. I like it honestly. Pikachu fits for the partner's personality.
>>321733456
Hold R and then move to turn in place.
I was also just starting to play the game and I have to fucking beat a level 50 Salamence with my punny-ass lvl. 12 team?Did the frozen status always have made your enemy untouchable?
>>321734169
Blast Seeds
>>321734169
Slumber or Petrify Wands and blast seeds. He's actually a giant push over.
Does picking a gender at the beginning actually change anything?
>>321734058
>Totodile
My nig
>>321734169
Yeh, frozen makes enemies untouchable. Just throw magic and gardening stock at him until he submits.
>>321728964
how does it compare to sky?
i really hope it's loads better than gates
>tfw doesn't come out in aus till like feb
>>321734426
Way better than Sky but I didn't play Gates beyond the demo so I can't compare it to that.
>>321734507
Red Rescue Team was better than Gates, desu senpai.
>>321733340
They're not the same models at all, the ones in SMD are way lower poly.
>In all of these games I always get fucking Mudkip
Fuck it, Totodile and Cyndaquil, my niggas for life of the TeamBlue Blaze
You should be able to clutch most things out if you use orbs at the right time.
>tfw all your party members have fainted and you have to cheese the rest of the mission out using your wands and orbs
>>321734426
Worse than Sky in every single way except maybe dungeon gameplay.
Is it a roguelike or dungeon crawler? What's the difference?
>>321734426
I like Sky better, but that doesn't mean it's not a good title.
>>321734426
Music is extremely above Sky, gameplay moderately better, but the story is certainly weaker
Post Watchog Ahegao
the portrait is too fucking good
>>321734821
Rougelikes are different dungeons every playthrough with random equipment and permadeath.
Dungeoncrawlers is a game where you crawl through a dungeon looking for upgrades with some puzzle solving to progress. Layout is usually the same.
Kind of annoyed that this isn't out here yet. It's not out until February 20th.
