After Fallout 4's ending left me feeling unsatisfied, I decided to give New Vegas another shot.
New Vegas may be ugly as sin by today's standards, but goddamn does it have it where it counts. Its writing did a much better job of getting me to care for the fate of the Mojave and its people. This in direct contrast to F4, where the game couldn't even bring my to care about my own son.
After playing through these back to back, I'm salivating for a new Fallout with a story and dialog of New Vegas' caliber and the visual and mechanical improvements of F4.

Legion is the one I always ended up siding with. I tried to do NCR and Yes Man in different playthroughs but they just weren't as fun so I went crawling back to the Legion. House is one that I will never do, he makes no sense and he's a total dick, did not feel a thing after killing himand eating him

The Kings were probably my favorite but I really like what the game did with the Fiends the most. The series of missions where you kill fiend leaders is so satisfying. I also like how Caesar convinces them to fight on his side during the Battle of the Hoover Dam and then upon winning kills them for being degenerates.

I didn't fancy myself a leader, I couldn't bring myself to support the Legion knowing they'd kill minor factions/characters I liked, and the NCR looked like nothing but hot bureaucracy despite their good intentions. Despite how abrasive he was, House had a vision and the means and know-how to follow it through.

I think Obsidian did a good job but Bethesda do a much better job at making games that just work well. NV had some cool gimmicks but fallout 3's world just felt more diverse and realized than the Mojave.
That's not to say NV was bad! I would still recommend you buy the game, maybe over steam, it's just the mainline series is where the meat is at.

better use of your time then playing 4. NV is more immersive and has more RPG elements to it, better story, slightly better combat and more choices/skillcaps. However it feels a bit empty and expects you too kind of know the lore beforehand. Also there really aren't any good final choices there's an upside and a down side to every single faction you help. Somebody gets hurt regardless of what you do.
3 On the other hand has a better atmosphere in my opinion and it's not as lore driven so newcomers feel more welcomed I guess idk. It's story is pretty shit. They aren't as many choices, really end game there's only one and the game kid of railroads you into doing what it wants you to do. But hey you're the absolute good guy who stopped the evil bad guys and thats what modern gamers like.

You know I haven't played F4, but I honestly found myself unable to care about the Mojave and it's people, to the point that once I delivered the chip and found my motivation gone with nothing to replace it, I literally walked to the Mojave outpost and pretended to leave forever, then uninstalled.
But damn I will say that while I'm usually pro-dialog wheel, F4 definitely has me wishing for some NV level or at least some Mass Effect level dialog, because goddamn this linearity is fucking sad.

The dialog in ME wasn't bad. There were 3-5 choices for most conversations, and all distinct enough, not counting infodumps which were put on a separate nested wheel.
That plus the Paragon/Renegade interrupts made for a fairly compelling and praiseworthy dialog system.
Of course, it's not as good as Deus Ex HR's, which has by far the best wheel-menu dialog and some of the best dialog mechanics ever. I wish games were ripping off the dialog boss battles because those were the SHIT.
