Dark Souls gameplay is intense because your character is fragile, but it is quite simplistic and a lot of the challenge is mitigated when you learn to roll, at which point it largely becomes a fishing simulator. Dragon's Dogma gameplay is more developed, more free, more grand and more varied. You could maybe argue that a lot of it is just pointless flare, but that flare results in moments that you don't really see in other games

Witcher 3 has main quests, side quests, monster hunting, whores banging, racing, brawling, drinking, card games and more.
Even the quest has more variety than just sword fighting.

The lag is a pain in the dick but it definitely makes things really interesting having people invade you so they can regain their humanity or suddenly being summoned to another player's world because you're in a covenant that is sworn to any player in trouble who happens to be wearing your covenant's ring. Already preordered DD and the co op is most likely better from the looks of things but Souls games just do a lot of really unique things when it comes to multiplayer.
