So I loaded up Doom for the first time in quite a while and I figured I'd try the highest difficulty. I always like the game of course but I never really bothered doing that. Now I've heard a lot of people say the game is easy even on the hardest difficulty but holy shit I must be bad at the game since I'm getting wrecked at every corner. Is there some kind of trick or something I should be applying or is it harder than people let on?
anyways lets talk doom if anyone's up for it. A quake is fine too.

Does Doomguy's helmet smell like sweat haha?

If you're playing on Nightmare then don't bother. id software made it as a joke difficulty. Ultra Violence is the best setting to play on.

Nightmare was intended for speedrunning, not regular playthroughs.

I see, I had just always heard that "it's even easy on the highest difficulty" so I assumed it was either horse shit or I just needed to get good.
also does anyone use the default controls
Is that all the response a doom thread warrants in this day and age?
anyways things are making a lot more sense on ultra violence, though this is making me want to play quake 1 again.
whoever told you that it's a troll

yeah on ultra violence it's keeping me on my toes since i've never been great at these games, but the difficulty makes a lot more sense
so on a related note, does anyone still play the multiplayer? I hear it's got a bit of depth to it for being so old.

Everyone plays MP on Zandronum these days. It has servers running goods mods, and servers running the same shit everyone has already played a billion times before (Brutal Doom, Complex Doom, Megaman 8-Bit Deathmatch, Ghouls VS Humans and Zombie Horde/Horde of the Bagels)

If you want depth in multiplayer play Quake.
Doom's multiplayer is arguably more fun, but it has far less depth.

doom is literal casual garbage, if you honestly think its hard and this is not just some circle jerk thread then you probably have brain damage.

I'm not looking for crazy depth, but I heard that for as old as it is, it has some things going for it.
>>321708051
oh 8 bit deathmatch is still running? I thought that had vanished
>>321704783
I thought it was pretty hard on normal. I did try on nightmare and got rekt too. This was about a month ago.
