I'm British, it's 2AM, and the only game I'd care to play on Steam isn't out until next month. Simply curious about how such a blatant fuck up can go uncommented upon.

that doesn't mean people weren't in panic and keeping their mouth shut certainly didn't help.

Why are you so adamant about this? Every decent company apologizes for their errors or any inconvenience for that matter. So why not them?
>>
>>321706595
>Why are you so adamant about this?
I'm not. I just realize that you're shitposting in the hopes of baiting people into continuing the "ALL MY DATAS WERE HACKED! FREE GAMEZ PL0X NA0!" meme.

People saw personal info they were not meant to see. I don't care if you say my email, name, and a address are not a big deal for people to see. I don't trust steam with that info so complete strangers can see it. I'm not even demanding free shit, I'm just disgusted steam can make such a huge fuck up, and not apologize. The whole thing people were panicking about was that people were able to see this info on other users accounts you retard
>claim an apology is not needed

Yes you did, by saying absolutely nothing happened and to get over it, you're saying there's nothing to apologize for
>>
>>321707595
>able to see this info on other users accounts you retard
Yeah, but no one saw yours. So relax. You're not that important anyway.

>Yes you did, by saying absolutely nothing happened and to get over it, you're saying there's nothing to apologize for

But absolutely nothing happened. And you should get over it. As such, you're right. There isn't anything to apologize for.

Should they still offer an apology? Yeah, probably. The autists who feel like they've somehow been wronged seem rather adamant about it.
>>

I doubt Valve has any way of knowing whether your information was stolen. It was an issue with caches that meant a random person could potentially view your email, phone number etc. How exactly would Steam know if a person decided to note down your info?

For the record I still think Valve should make some sort of apology but its unlikely that the random dude who potentially saw your info would have hostile intent.

You literally do though. Their terms of service lays it out pretty clear that they can basically do whatever the fuck they want with any of your info except certain parts of your financial data that are protected by law. Plenty of companies sell emails, addresses, and names in their userbases to other companies that want them for advertising. All of that is perfectly legal. Do you "have a single evidence" to prove they did? The chances of your acct being one of those visible to another user are slim to none, and even if it were, so what? A couple pieces of publicly available information that are useless to the person seeing them might, maybe, possibly, have been shown.

Alert the media.

The same way they know who logs into what account? IP addresses

They need to acknowledge it and warn people, just because it's unlikely something bad happened doesn't in any way excuse them or make it any less their fault
>>
>>321707976
>it's something that literally didn't affect you
sure
>or anyone else, either
false

why are you so in denial about it?
it happened. People saw other users' private emails (info which under no circumstance should be visible to other users without your consent).
It was a situation of discomfort due to the malfunction of their service.
Companies apologize even for something as simple as a DoS, yet Valve seems to be completely ignoring this.
>>

this is so unfathomably stupid that I need to lay down now

>>321708498

>>
>>321708498
>publicly available information
private e-mails aren't publicly available information
>useless to the person seeing them
why don't you post your e-mail if it's so useless to people seeing it and it's publicly available.
>>
>>321708619

The point I was trying to make it that yes, while they can probably determine if anyone saw your info, they can't tell you whether that person has any malevolent intent. Your average Steam user is going to see someone elses info on screen think 'oh, something has gone wrong' then probably close the window.

Again, I think they should at least release some kind of statement, but telling you personally if your information has been 'stolen' makes little sense. Explaining that someone may have seen your data is about all they can do.
>>
>>321708664
>why are you so in denial about it?
I'm not. I just understand that there's literally nothing to be in a panic about.

>it happened.
So what?

It was a caching error, and not anything malicious by either Valve or another unrelated party. Shit happens. Especially when computers are involved.

>Companies apologize even for something as simple as a DoS
Yeah, I really think companies should stop apologizing for things outside of their control, but that's another subject entirely.

>yet Valve seems to be completely ignoring this.
So what? What do you want? Somehow I think you want more than a simple apology.

>>321708742
It's actually not. What they would look for is any IP address other than the ones that typically access the account. Unless you're on the same network or have some kind of botnet/backdoor on the victim's network, the attacker would have a different IP address according to Steam, which typically activates minor primary security measures that may or may not be visible to the attacker (e.g. flagging the account for review). That's why you see stuff like "Hey, this is a different computer than usual and/or you're buying a ton of shit. Can you confirm this is you?"
>>
>>321708498
It's a fact that Valve was showing personal information to random people and they have no business doing that no matter how you try to twist it. Citing lack of evidence while trying to defend Valve doesn't really work because it's Valve who're pretending nothing happened instead of informing the involved parties.
>>
>>321707872
>Yeah, but no one saw yours.

Wait, they're not pretending it didn't happen. They released a statement about it.

"As a result of a configuration change earlier today, a caching issue allowed some users to randomly see pages generated for other users for a period of less than an hour. But they can promise they will do their best to try to make it so something never happens again

Hey retards

VALVE DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT BECAUSE IT WAS "LESS THAN AN HOUR" and "JUST A CACHING ISSUE"

If you care, hire your own lawyer and see how far you get

Just make sure they don't show up on the same day my usual order comes in. Gotta space out the workload, know what I mean?

Come over to the Sony side, PCfriends
You'll have plenty of great games, plenty of great friends and as a customer you and your data will be treated with due respect

Yeah, and that is absolutely meaningless.

Seriously, get over yourself or get up and sue them.

No thanks.

How did it take this long for the falseflagging to start in this thread? I'm almost impressed.

That pic is pretty tempting though, i'm seriously considering buying a PS4

Explain to the class what "any video game based service" means.

Go ahead and sue if you'd like, if you have a decent lawyer. Valve settles TONS of claims each year to make people shut the fuck up.

Do you have a strain of down syndrome or something?

Yes it was stated on the steam forums and corrected rather quickly.
A vast amount of misinformation was spread about it and really very minimal loss was caused.

A lot of this was caused by reddit trying to grab upvotes screaming about how awful the situation is.
>>
>>321713568
I just want them to apologize. You're saying an apology is meaningless since they can't ensure it won't happen again
>>
>>321713612
>>321713797
This is why /v/ needs ids. And flags, so we can settle which country is the biggest cancer on our board

Obviously BRs

S;G is already out in Japan and its not like its coming out anytime soon or ever in English

We aren't even likely to get a fan translation anytime soon because there's no PC release
>>
>>321714047
No, I'm saying that "promise they will do their best to try to make it so something never happens again" is meaningless. Of course they're always trying to make sure they don't fuck, so what is the point of the promise? Are you mentally challenged?
>>
>>321714258
BRs can't into English enough for the level of flaseflagging and well written shitposting around here
>>
>>321714346
>Guys we had a massive fuck up, should we issue an apology and tell them we're working to make sure it doesn't happen again?
>Nah, they already know we're working hard. What's the point?
>>
>>321712415
I haven't logged into Steam since, and I dunno if I'll buy from Steam again. Pretty sure other people saying shit are doing the same.
>>
>>321714514
>Guys we had a massive fuck up
wherein nothing happened apparently
> should we issue an apology
already issued an statement while shit was going down
> tell them we're working to make sure it doesn't happen again?
or to phrase it differently: should we lie to them?

You are asking for hollow phrases that don't mean anything. What would change if they added "and we promise to never do this again, pinkyswear"? Absolutely nothing. So, what are you getting out of it?
>>
>>321714902
>wherein nothing happened apparently
Where users personal information was breached. Don't act like that's nothing.
>already issued an statement while shit was going down
Which did not include an apology at all. How hard would it have been to include one?
>or to phrase it differently: should we lie to them?
The error was their own fault. They didn't test out their new shit, and this is what happened
