It makes a difference only in that you have more surface area for mice with low sensitivities. I used a $1 custom mousepad for years before getting a QCK+ and it really helped me because I didn't have to lift the mouse as much in Counter-Strike making for more fluid aiming.
Also, I love oppai mousepads. I got a Sonico one for Christmas last year. It's comfy as shit and a great discussion piece when people see my PC.My gf and the girl I'm cheating on her withboth love it and want one too.

A nice mousepad will have your mouse just gliding across it perfectly. Those gel shits are retarded because it makes it harder to comfortably move your mouse with the force from your elbow and are almost always way too tiny to begin with.

I got a Razer Goliathus free when I bought something on Newegg years ago and I love it. Perfect amount of friction, rolls up for storage, and it's extremely durable. I'd pay like $15-20 for it if I had to considering it has lasted over 3 years and is just as good as day one.
