the game tried to give me totodile twice but I reset for both because the designs of all johto starters are ridiculously bad; it then gave me mudkip, which satisfied me.
it tried to give chimchar as a partner which again was stupid because chimchar is comparable to johto, Chespin, and Wotter in how fucking bad the design is, so I picked Fennekin manually because I didn't care about personality test choosing it

I feel like the pacing is really off. The introduction of the spooky antagonistic MUAHAHAH somewhere before we're even doing anything cool feels really early. Plus the boxes of bosses during the continue screen has two boxes ALREADY FILLED after beating the Poliwrath brothers. Does it expand later on? Or is this game just that short?

Super's main story is pretty bad, to be honest.
Pretty much nothing happens for the first 20 hours of the game, and then everything is crammed quickly into the last 5 or so hours, and even then the shit that happens isn't very interesting and just happens too quickly.
Super has amazing mechanics and post game, but the story is ass.
I'm a Cyndaquil and my partner is Chespin all based on the quiz.
But yeah I'm a little passed Gabite and I'm not thrilled I can't go off on my own and do what I want. The forced storyline kills me. In other words, I can't just run straight to the stairs, I have to try and level up as I progress rather than stepping away from the story and grinding. That's just what I like personally though.
Tutorial lasts for about 8 chapters.

Evolution is worthless except for you and your partner, because there's only one of every Pokemon recruitable besides you two, and the only changes evolution brings is learnsets and any changes in type or ability.
I like that the game keeps punching you in the gut emotionally if you tell the partner that they're annoying

it took me by surprise too, but I literally learned Sleep Powder the level before I came across him, so I just put him in a coma while my team beat the shit out of him. I'm sure it's harder if you're not a bulbasaur but I'm fucking glad I kept sleep powder I usually ditch that shit for physical attacks because I brute force it because I'm a retard.
It does seem a bit odd to put that so early in though, are they trying to make you grind or was it just a fuck up?

After getting fucked over by confusion from those earlygame Spritzees too many times to count, I always carry a confusion orb or two with me. The bee bosses ended up killing themselves while being confused, it was fantastic.

Sleep never become useless actually, especially powder since it has an AoE. All bosses can be put to sleep, it's just some/most of them awaken a lot faster than enemies. You'll probably want to keep it. Also keep guiding wands and Stayaway wands on you, but with Sleep Powder you may not need the stayaway ones.
