Is it really worth building a gaming PC nowadays?

I was going to buy a new TV as I have a spare grand laying about (£1000/$1600) as I already have an Xbone (I've played a Ps4 and hated it)

But I might build a PC for fun instead

Give me the pros and cons please
Can I even build an acceptable PC with 1600 dollars
>>

>Is it really worth building a gaming PC nowadays?
Yes.
>Can I even build an acceptable PC with 1600 dollars
You can build a crazy ENTHUSIASTIC level turbo PC with that money, moron.

500$ is all you need for an acceptable entry-level gaming PC, which would kick the shit out of both Xbone and PS4 specs-wise.

Check logicalincrements.com for decent guides for different budgets. You can also search Youtube for "(your budget)$ gaming PC build", and check latest videos.

I recommend Intel CPU + Nvidia GPU set. Pirate Windows 7 Ultimate, and you save over 100 bucks instantly. Do not gimp on the PSU! It's the most important part.
>>
>>321683078
I've that the 'next generation' of graphics cards, etc are due to release next year main the current ones obsolete

Is this true?
>>
>>321682518
>Can I even build an acceptable PC with 1600 dollars
you could have built a PS4-killer PC for less than 400 bucks already two years ago! Pic very related. There's no need to pay more than 1000 bucks for a PC, unless you want to get 4k capable system.
>>
>>321682518
I just built one and no, I don't think it was worth it. All I do is look at porn. Most of the games are console ports and the exclusives are indie garbage like Undertale which could be run on a commodore 64.

Also no Bloodborne. That's a big one.
>>
>>321682518
Find games you want to play first.
>WOOW ALL I'M PLAYING ARE ENTRY LEVEL AAA GAMES I PLAYED ON CONSOLES YEARS AGO.
>>321683284
The way of pc hardware I'm afraid. You only hold off on building/upgrading when they're a few months off though.
>>
>>321683284
Yes, the first DirectX12 cards are ETA'd to Q1 2016. Obviously those would be more future-proof in the end, but at the moment, there's zero DX12 supporting games out there.
>>

How good is this build, should I change out the mobo or can I keep it as is?
>>
>>321683449
It's OK for 1080p / 60fps gaming.

Don't sweat about the motherboard. As long as it has the right socket for your CPU and the connections you need, it's fine.
>>
>>321683078
This. Don't spend all 1600 on the PC though, unless you're counting monitors and peripherals. A legitimate top tier rig you build yourself should be 900-1100 USD. If you spend more than that, you probably won't even know what you're buying and fail to utilize it fully.

Also, google "install gentoo" and find the /g/ wiki if you want a guide that reads like shitposting.
>>
>>321683569
Do you think it could at least run Fallout 4 on high settings?
>>
>>321683449
lol this almost EXACTLY what my build was last year when I built my new PC. Same case and everything. I can vouch for that CPU and GPU, they've been working great. Mobo is seriously one of the least important parts beyond serving as the base for everything, so don't worry if you don't know the ins and outs of picking one. Yours is fine. You also have plenty of overhead with that PSU, so don't worry about that. Good job and good luck, anon.

PC gaming is a meme
>>
>>321684184
sure, with ease as well.
but that game's poorly optimized and very shitty anyway.

>le grand pc meme
son, you can deck a room out to be the star ship fucking enterprise E for less
>>
>>321684184
I'm the same anon as >>321684318
Yes, it can run Fallout 4 on high. I only had to turn down god rays (the sunbeam things) for when I was outside in the daylight but most people think they look bizarre on the higher settings anyway.
>>
>>321684318
Thank you :>

Just ordered all the parts today and I feel so happy right now.
>>
>>321683284
You could wait for those, they're looking to be a big improvement, but current hardware will hold up for quite a few years still
>>
>>321684541
>>321684402
Thank you for the input, anons.
>>

Are you baiting or u for real son? My 3 year old budget rig ~600$ can max dat shit ass game 1080p60...
Every console crossplatform game is better on that rig by a fucking mile.
>>
>>321683449
If it's your first time, make it easy on yourself and and buy as many of those parts from the same retailers as possible. Amazon and Newegg are easy, but some of the other ones can be a tiny bit difficult to deal with if you haven't done business with them before. It's worth 5-10 extra bucks for that convenience.
>>
My PC is like 5 years old and I can run TW3 and Fallout 4 on High+ settings at 1080p at 45fps+

i5 2500k OC'd to 4.5ghz
gtx 760
8gb RAM

so yeah, that should give you an idea of what is overkill or not OP.
>>
>>321684832
Anons my stone me for this but it's also acceptable to get the mobo, cpu and ram pre build in a case. There are a few retailers that do this, you also get a windows copy and all that noise with it. It's mostly cheaper to do that and buy a gpu and PSU and just throw them in.
It's arguably more comfortable to do so.
>>
R9 390 Radeon, or Sapphire 390x?

I want to make GTA V look gorgeous and be safe for future games.
>>
>>321683284
They're due to release soonish but they won't make the current gen obsolete. Nothing sucks quite like being unable to complete a build due to holding off for new hardware that may or may not even be worth the wait. DX12 could be great but there aren't any games that support it yet, on top of all the games that have come out in the past that don't support it, or the games that began development before and thus won't support DX12 when they're released (probably)
>>
>>321685374
I would personally never recommend an amd card ever, but price/performance is good.
Don't
>>
>>321685374
GTX 980ti
>>
>>321683284

Yeah, but there's always that something right around the corner in tech.

I wouldn't worry too much about it if you want something now right this moment. You can build a decent rig that'll run everything at 1080p 60+ fps, and then just wait for that new card/monitor/whatever to have its kinks and firmware ironed out and price dropped when you want to upgrade later on.
>>
>>321685629

Stop trying to sell your $700 3.5GB card, kike.
>>
>>321683449
Will give pretty solid performance with room to upgrade later on
>>
I have been debating on getting a 900 series nvidia for a few months now but I just haven't had the need what with my 760 still churing out great frame rates. I decided to save and just get the next gen of graphics cards
>>
>>321685739
>980ti
>3.5Gb
way to prove that AMD-cucks are braindead morons.
>>
>>321685739
3.5 is only on 970 because it's a gimped 980.
>>
>>321685901
Stick with your card, bro.

I still use a single GTX 560ti, and I still see no reason to upgrade. I play all my games at 1920x1200, med-high settings, and get good framerates.
>>
>>321685739
Does the 980 also have the missing .5 issue that the 970 does? Also I really wish the 980 didn't cost so fucking much.
>>
>>321686059
No.
>>
>>321686059

Hope you're ready for the future, when Nvidia gets a monopoly and stars charging $1000 for video cards that operate at console levels.

why haven't you been rocking an x-99 machine for a fucking year now?
>>
>>321685616
Why? The 390 is a great card for a great price. The 970 would only beat it in overclocking and power consumption.
>>
>>321686059
Nope.
And they're the flagship cards. obviously they cost a lot.

plus, the whole .5gb thing of 970 is greatly exaggerated.

>>321682518
Depends.
You can build an AMAZING PC with 1600 dollars. It'll be able to run games on maximum settings with a good FPS years from now.
So for pros
>PC games tend to look or run (max FPS-wise) better than consoles
>PC games are sometimes cheaper due to sales
>can always pirate if you're a cheap fuck
>can emulate up to PS2 if you have a good build
>you can install mods and have access to game files
As for cons
>console exclusives won't be available
PC has exclusives too but most of them aren't really resource-demanding
>consoles are easier to work with, sometimes PC games require a bit of troubleshooting
>physical copies are a dead concept (can be considered a pro)

I'd say go to the Steam store and look for games you'd like to play on PC. If you've made your decision, try making a build on pcpartpicker and post it on one of /v/'s PCbuilding threads. Good luck anon
>>
>>321686251
>w10
I feel sorry for you.

>>321686345
>the whole .5gb thing of 970 is greatly exaggerated

If it says 4gb on the box, I don't want 3.5gb and .5 retarded gb
>>
>>321686462
The card has 4GB of VRAM, moron.
The last 0.5GB is just partitioned into its own section, that is behind slightly slower bus.

At least learn what people are talking about, instead of parroting AMD-shillers.
