Are they real aliens or the result of the church/Byrgenwerth experements?
>>
Byrgenwerth experiments,

See how the fake iosefka turns all those you send to her into ayyyyyyyyy
>>
>>321680646
A bit of both.
Given all the Lovecraft influences it isn't hard to believe that the Great Ones are from space. So basically humans fucked up by Great One blood became xeno scum.
>>
>>321680856
I didnt know she was fake. Where is this stated? and how?
>>
They are kin, so they're artificial. They're basically harvested for their blood by the church.
>>
>>321681317
It is two different people. When you first talk to her, she will tell you not to bring anyone and to go away. Then after I think the Gascoigne fight if you return, she will then talk to you as if she never met you and ask that you bring people so they can be "treated".
>>
>>321681137
it's not space
it's a different dimension
cosmos doesn't mean outer space in this setting
ree.
>>
>>321681317
>>321681657

There is also someone listed as Fake Iosefka or Fake Doctor ( I don't remember ) in the credits along with the real one.
>>
Product of the Church attempting to evolve and become closer to the Great Ones. They apparently managed to succeed considering the boss version is classified as a Great One.

>>
>>321682105
The Choir stumbled upon an epiphany, very suddenly and quite by accident. Here we stand, feet planted in the earth. but might the cosmos be very near us, only just above our heads?

it's not space mane
if they came upon an epiphany that the cosmos weren't far out (heh) but instead very close, it means they ain't ayliums.
>>
the aliens are products of the healing church, specifically the orphanage section.

children were ascended to kin of greater ones.

the area where you see these is named garden for a reason.

the healing church needed more and more of the greater ones blood and harvested these celestials for their blood.
>>
>>321682297
>but might the cosmos be very near us, only just above our heads?
>The sky and the cosmos are one
>Kos came from the ocean
what does this tell you?
>>
How the FUCK do I bet those two hunters after ludwig?
>>

What do they mean "just above our heads"? Do they mean dreamscapes or their imagination?
>>
>>321681831
>>321682297

Full Definition of alien

1
a : belonging or relating to another person, place, or thing : strange b : relating, belonging, or owing allegiance to another country or government : foreign c : exotic 1

2
: differing in nature or character typically to the point of incompatibility

Alien is more broad than "a person from another planet in our dimension."

>>
>>321683279
I think that is your physical body. Dreams/nightmares aren't literal dreams, they're places created by Great Ones.
>>
>>321682994
You do know that the game never actually refers to them as aliens right? The only reason people say that is because its the closest thing they resemble and people understand what it means. Without delving into super long posts the basic gist is: some people took a bunch of blood and turned into beasts and other people studied the fuck out of great ones and performed experiments on people turning them into sort of aliens in order to produce paleblood which they believed would turn them into great ones.
>>
>>321683670
But Micolash laments waking up, and we interact with his physical body outside of the Nightmare.
>>
>>321683885
I guess. He's dead though, not sleeping. Like how Mergo or the Orphan of Kos was dead.
>>
So, the trophy for the true ending says I became an infant Great One and ascended humanity.
This means I became what the Church wanted right? A Great One/Human hybrid that could communicate; and it was all thanks to insight.
>>
Why does Master Willem lead you to Rom? Since she is halting the Mensis Ritual, wouldn't he not want anyone to kill her? Did he have a change of heart about the Great Ones? Did he just not give a fuck anymore?
>>
>>321684459
Yep. You became what they were searching for all these years, and the irony of it is that you weren't really trying to do that.

>>321684476
He's obviously old and likely senile at this point. All he can think about is his obsession with 'the eyes' and Rom, so that's why he sits there and just points to the lake all day.
>>
>>321684476
I don't know. I can't figure out his angle either.

>>321684816
I'd like to give the writers more credit than that.
>>
>>321684816
And why would you want to be a slug? Did the MC want this?
>>
>>321684916
Well, you made a choice. You could've just been killed by Gehrman.
>>
>>321684126
The dream worlds in Bloodborne are unsurprisingly a lot like Lovecraft's. Kuranes was dead in the story Celephais, but still lived on in another dimension accessed by dreaming. Sleep was often used as a means of traveling through dimensions, and it was implied that all dreaming took place in a separate physical world where gods and great ones lived.
>>
>>321684476
There's a note in the second floor of the lecture hall that said something along the lines of "Evolution without courage will be the downfall of humanity" so by pointing the way for you he's seeing if you have the courage to evolve
>>
>>321683670
>>321683885
It's inspired by the stories by Lovecraft known as the "Dream Cycle." Basically they're not just dreams, you're visiting the dimensions where the Great Ones live when you sleep.
>>
>>321685149
What? That note's referring to the difference in the two philosphies, I think. Evolution without courage refers to blood echoes/infusions.

He should be fundamentally opposed to what you're doing.
>>
>>321684903
>I'd like to give the writers more credit than that.

I don't think that being the reason is a discredit to the writers. It seems like a perfectly reasonable explanation to me. Willem's old and is now the only one left of his philosophy stuck in a school of people-turned-monstrosities. He's obviously lost it, plenty of people do in Lovecraft too.
>>
>>321682672
That's why you can look down from the Fishing Hamlet and see Yharnam.
>>
>>321685032
I prefer to take his place instead
>>
>>321686304
Because doing shit because you're crazy is not a valid motivation to me.

The actions that people perform should work towards their character goals. If they just do things because they're crazy, it's crappy writing because you can use it to justify anything.

It's why I like that Bloodborne doesn't have the gay "you can't possibly comprehend what the Great Ones want" cop-out. Even cosmic entities have goals and they're taking actions to try and achieve those goals.
>>
>>321686551
May I have an explanation why it looks like the city Yharnam and if there's any symbolism that Kos came from the ocean with Yharnam underneath?
>>
>>321684476
I think he is senile, he's alway ms referred to in past tense.

> Master Willem WOULD be proud of Carrels's research as it does not rely on blood in any measure.
> something, something church is bad, Willem would be disappointed, if only he knew.

He hasn't interacted with anyone significant for a long time.

Rom was also "his secret", whatever that means (especially since both Michalosh and the note-writer in Cathederal Ward know about her)
>>
>>321686834
But it does work towards his goal. He's ancient, he probably can't even move out of his chair. All he can do is sit there all day and wallow in his obsession, to the point where it's the only thing he can think about. So when someone comes along, obviously making it far enough and having some idea of what to look for, the only thing he can think of is pointing out where Rom is. It's not because he's "just" insane, it's because his insanity and obsession now influences his actions.

And you're wrong on the second point, too. Sure, we know the Great Ones DO have goals, but that doesn't mean we can comprehend them. We're never really informed of what they want or what their goals are, outside of wanting "children" and possibly not always working together.
>>
>>321686551
I'm pretty sure that's the Hunters Nightmare Yharnam.

Seeing as a Shell-lady falls from the sky near the Pizza Cutter. The Clockface may not be a portal, the geography might line up it just reveals what was sitting there the whole time.

>>321687354
But what does Willhelm eat
>>
>>321687354
That's stupid. What possible benefit does he get from telling you where Rom is so you can kill her? That actively goes against what he's portrayed to want. Your motivation still boils down to
>oh he's crazy.

And no, you're wrong on the second point. It's very clear what a lot of the Great Ones want, you just pointed it out, which is kids. Reproducing.

It never, not once, goes
>oh our machinations are beyond your mortal comprehension
which is a great credit to the game.

Everyone's so in love with this dumb cliche they never consider how lazy or contradictory it is.
>>
>>321687842
I never got far into that, but he seemed to think that every piece of an umbilical cord was from the Orphan of Kos, which makes absolutely no sense.
>>
>>321687990
Dude, Willem's stuck in a place where his former pupils have been transformed into terrible monsters and he can't only not do anything about it, but barely seems capable of movement. Are you surprised that he's lost it?

Okay, they want to reproduce. Why? Instinct? To some greater end? We don't know, and seeing most of the people who interact with them straight up go insane, it doesn't seem impossible to me that it's beyond mortal scope.
>>
Speaking of ayyys, how do I turn into one in the dlc and how do I build my character for that form?
>>
>>321688320
That's lazy. That's lazy as fuck. If he is just crazy, that's an incredibly dumb excuse for him foiling his own plans. You can try to justify why he'd be crazy, him being crazy at all and doing something incredibly stupid and contradictory just because he's crazy poor writing. Which is why I don't think he's crazy.

Also obviously instinct. Why does anything want to reproduce? It's a basic tenet of life. It is an end in and of itself, it doesn't need to be explained further. And that's fine.

Things being beyond mortal understanding, horrible nightmare creatures and knowledge, that's all fine. What is not okay, and where you're not making the distinction, is that explaining away actions by saying "he's crazy" or "you couldn't possibly understand" is lazy.

It's like how Mass Effect fucked themselves by the space gods in that game telling you how you couldn't understand their motivations, and then they had to explain their motivations to you later. Lazy and stupid.
>>
>>321687978
Knowledge and sedative. He's probably drugged 24/7 trying to avoid frenzy with all of that insight
>>
>>321687473
Should have specified I meant Nightmare Yharnam.

The sea of the Fishing Hamlet being the sky of the Hunter's Nightmare could be a reference to "the sky and the cosmos are one", given that Kos came from the sea.
>>
>>321680646
aren´t they called something like "the ambassador"?
so I would put my money on aliens
>>
>>321689018
Considering fake Iosefka turns humans into them, I think they're the kind of ambassadors that contact aliens rather than the other way around.
>>
>>321688850
Why is it lazy? It's a perfectly reasonable thing to happen, and he was already obsessed with Rom before. All you've said is that it's lazy writing without providing a reason why.
>>
Bless you all.

therefore

please carry on in my stead
>>
>>321689504
Fuck you Ludwig
>>
>>321689269
Because you can explain anything by just saying it's crazy or beyond your understanding. What makes good basic writing is logic and consistency. Even when it comes to crazy eldritch horrors. You look at Silent Hill. It has good writing even though a bunch of characters are crazy. Why? Because you understand the characters, you understand the world, and you understand the ideas that everything is trying to convey to you.

Saying that someone does something incredibly stupid just because he's crazy is an excuse not to have a real motivation. It's an excuse not to think your characters through. Even with crazy people, you should understand how their logic is warped to arrive at their conclusions. Their actions are irrational, but you always see how it moves them towards their character objectives.
>>
>>321688123
honestly Im more than content that I even understood the basic gist of the lore

I dont need to read 100+ pages to ruin my naive POV of bloodbornes lore
>>
>>321683885
>>321684126

Also, Micolash is not a hunter.
>>
So is death essentially pointless in Bloodborne? I mean do all the people you meet continue to live on in different dimensions due to all of them having beast blood in them?
>>
>>321689504
Don't give up eventually all's well
>>
>>321690749
Now that you mention it, yeah
>>
>>321688850

Him being crazy is the result of him following through with his stupid plan. He didn't come out from his research as he expected, like most people who got involved in this shit he paid a big fucking price for it.

Also, this bullshit you're saying about every character working toward their goals is just a lazy as the shit you're saying. Some people get lost, unmotivated or simply hit a fucking brick wall that prevents them from furthering their shit, which is apparently what happened to Willem. That's the end to his machinations, being a senile mutant sitting on a fucking balcony.

> tfw Amelia, Ludwig, Gascoigne and all other semi decent members of the church live on in another dimension free from the curse.
>>
>>321691584
It does not matter why he's crazy. The idea that he's crazy so he'll do something incredibly stupid and self-destructive and ruin everything he has ever tried to accomplish for no reason other than he's crazy is lazy.

That's That's my viewpoint, and you keep going back to why he's crazy which is not related. I don't care why you think eh's crazy.

Also no, every character works towards a goal. If they work against their own established goal because he's crazy and lolsorandom, that's lazy and shit writing. If you establish your character to be lazy, he does things to try and be lazy. That's a motivation. If you say he's lazy and then he all of a sudden for no reason makes shit tons of work for himself deliberately, there needs to be a good reason for that.
>>
>>321681317
It's explicitly stated in the official guide.

However, it was easy to figure out before, as others had said. She speaks to you differently (and with a noticeably different voice) before and after Gascoigne.
There was also a credited voice actor as "Imposter" in the credits.

What the fuck is your problem? Someone asked about Willem's motivation for doing something that doesn't make sense. I agree and I want a discussion about why he did that so I can further my understanding of the story.

Then you come on saying he's crazy, here's why, there's no other reason, which I'm not satisfied with and I explain why. Then you're apparently trying to convince me that being crazy is sufficient motivation and not bad writing?
