Do games need to be fun to be good?
Pretty much
And a memorable soundtrack
Yes, don't let the tourneyfags trick you.

No.
As long as it has a good story.
does stand-up comedy need to make you laugh to be good?

Yes

Yes

Why would you play a game of you are not having fun?
>>321670598
Nah. I wouldnt say Silent Hill 2 is fun, but its still great.
a game needs to be fun in order to be good
I think more accurately it just has to be enjoyable to you. You can enjoy things in ways that I wouldn't really call "fun"
No. It just has to be engaging.
Of course, Fun is engaging but it's not the only reason to play a game.
Do movies need to be fun to be good?

Yes. Everything else goes second.
What is a game that is not fun?A Playstation one
Yes, but "fun" doesn't always mean the same thing for every person and every game.
For example, a "fun" game to someone who enjoys Mario is not the same as a "fun" game as someone who enjoys story-heavy JRPGs. But they're both "fun."
Yes but fun is subjective so fun for one person may not be fun for another.
There are movies and books I wouldn't exactly call fun but they made a good impact on me. Ultimately video games should aim to be fun as the hybrid between toys and movies, but they can be engaging and worthwhile without being fun to play necessarily.

Yes.
If a game isn't fun it isn't a good game.
No they don't, but most people wouldn't let them be anything but that, including the majority of /v/.
Don't let that one shitty post on a certain other chan's /v/ board get you down.
If it was engaging and fun to play, it was good.

>wouldn't let them
There's literally nothing stopping developers from making whatever they want.
The thing is, they want to make things which make them money, and pandering to a minority of gamers who don't want fun games is not lucrative.
Mind, you acknowledge that it is a minority when you acknowledge that "most people" don't want games which are not fun.

What you've done there is just explain my post in detail when anyone with half a brain could have inferred what I meant purely by reading it in the context of the thread.
>>321676768
And I hope you now understand why "wouldn't let them" was a really fucking stupid way to put it.

A game can be fun without being good, but a game can't be good without being fun. If that makes any sense.
