Any game with 4th wall breaks and other meta self-aware narrative devices can easily be seen as the writer being "lol I know about video game conventions and am so smart for pointing them out to you"; Kid Icarus Uprising has similar problems since it so often breaks the 4th wall any joke comes off as obnoxious.
There is also the fact you post on /v/ and probably have had ingrained into you that this game is "meme-game reddit tumblr garbage" and since you are enjoying the gameplay the only thing you can justify hating the game for is its most subjective element: the writing.

I thought a lot of it was closely related to Earthbound. I mean the font skeletons and Temmie could easily be related to the Mr. Saturns. Then there's the whole Omega Flowey debacle.
But the only part of the humor I found to date itself was a couple of the "tsundere" references.
Other than that, I thought the game was okay. If a bit on the easy side since 2/3 of the fucking final bosses are free wins. But no one really talks about this game for the gameplay.

I think the combat should be much better than it is. Even though each enemy has a unique attack it doesn't really matter because the attack phase is so short. You can just tank most enemies because your invincibility will carry you through the rest of their attack.
The other day I played the game again, because I remembered the bosses being fun but they just have good music. Many of them are even weaker than the generic enemies leading up to them. The only good thing is that their final move lasts long enough that you need to have learned how to dodge their attacks.
Sans is a really tough fight that gets your blood pumping. There should've been more difficult fights like that, only without the bullshit jump cuts.

Lisa has great atmosphere and writing, but it's very bare-bones as a game.
Undertale is much more fun to play, and has considerably more skill behind its music and presentation (not talking about graphics here). However, the writing is almost entirely based on cliches and repeating jokes.
Both are still amazing games, especially considering they were mostly developed by one-man teams

I agree with your sentiment but would argue about the music, LISA's stuff is mind blowing especially when you consider that it was made in a trial version of Fruity Loops that doesn't allow you to open saved projects, it fits the mood really well most of the time and is also unlike anything I've ever heard in video games. Jump cuts are pretty easy actually if your reaction is not bad. What is bad about sans' fight is the part where he slams you on the bones, and if that side occurs twice its basically guranteed damage.
But yeah I agree about difficulty, its pretty easy. I guess only difficult bosses from pacifist are omega flowey and asgore. Undying and sans are really what worth doing genocide for.
