Lower resolutions fit with older games aesthetic yes, especially with a CRT TV. It kind of works like make-up, in a way.
But 4K in a lot of modern games adds a ton of fidelity, including draw distance in some cases. Who wouldn't want to play a game with no jaggies? It can really bring out detail in some cases that you would otherwise miss. Some games it benefits, some games it doesn't, particularly older games. Stop being a dumb fag.

Bigger resolution means less jaggies so you can spend less processing power of AA. Also it looks better.
