Did you play the Tactics Ogre prequel on the GBA? Story is pretty good. There's also that other Ogre Battle on the SNES and one on the N64. Otherwise I'd say the Yggdra Union gamesBlaze, Unison and Gloriaif you can stomach the randomness of the gameplay and Bahamut Lagoon.

A lot. Those two are just the best known ones. I'd personally recommend both Vandal Hearts games, second one is more along the lines of politics and grim settings.

Modified is the route specific to the PSP port right? It was a little too happy for my tastes, yeah. Although it's theonly route where you can get your fairy's ending, right?

GL1- You have to play with a guide.
GL2- branching paths that require half a functional brain, but the plot/story is awful.
GL3- Pretty good, but it has no branching stort(not sure about this). Could do without the Miko.
GL4- Best PSP game imo

Fire Emblem: slower paced battles, lots of story and character talk
Shining Force: fast paced battles, very basic story/characters but you walk around towns and maps like a normal rpg
Yggdra Union: low unit count, very strategic mechanics. Hard to avoid OCD'ing on getting every item and treasure.
