I wanna get into this series /v/
Which game would be the best to start with (that doesn't require me to know Japanese)?
What's your personal favourite?
X is my personal favorite, but XI is pretty user friendly. VIII is also highly rated.
There are differences between iterations, some play more like a traditional strategy game whereas others lets you play as a single officer providing for a lot more RPG mechanics, although you can still be a ruler and play it as a strategy game in those.

Which ones are most like a strategy game?
11 seems to have an English release, what about 12?

IX and XI fits the bill, but i haven't played IX so i can't speak for how good it is.
Haven't played 12 but mostly heard negative things about it, don't think it got an english release either.
I've mostly played 8 and 11
8 is RPG while 11 is strategy
Both are great
I never got into 10

I'll give 11 a shot then, thanks Anon.

7 for the best RPG elements.

Is 7 better than 10 for RPG elements? I played 10 to death when I was younger

11 is a great place to start, but 12 never got an English release so it's a fan translation. It's also worse than the previous titles because it removes a lot of features.
You could check out Nobunaga's Ambition too, recently released and user friendly. But it's related to Japanese not The Three Kingdoms
XIII is almost out.
Supposedly the Asia version has an English option but not entirely sure yet.

Yea, I saw that on steam and it reminded me that I wanted to get into the series.
13 is coming out soon as well, but it seems they're not bringing the PC version to the West, only the PS4 one.>>321638620

7 and 8 have the best and highest focus on RPG elements, far more so than any other games in the series. (iirc 7 was a bit better)

And they're both emulatable PS2 releases.
