Any of you goys played this? Interested in a FUNWITHFRIENDSLOL game but I'm not sure if there's enough content for a 4x£15 game.

Plus the DLC bomb they dropped can go fuck itself
>>
pirated version works online
>>
I am poor as hell dude, how can I play with friends if I cant even buy it for myself only?
>>
>>321626290
I'm somewhat scared my peasant snake friends will abandon me to randoms after I buy it for myself only.
>>
>>321626281
Hmm that's useful to know, although one of my friends is a bit of a goody two shoes so might have to buy it.
Can pirates and legits play together?
>>
>>321626190
I bought it a week ago and I've put nearly forty hours into it so far. I think it's wicked fun even with randoms. A lot of them are surprisingly competent. It sucks that there's such a mob of DLC, but most of that shit is niche weapons and perks I never use anyway.

If you absolutely hate playing with randoms and have no friends, it's still fun trying to figure out a way to solo the missions. On higher difficulties that mostly means running the fuck away constantly.

I highly suggest looking up some sort of basic tips thing, because there are a lot of little details about combat and enemy types that can actually change your behavior a lot if you're aware of them.

I think we're just after about £1/hr entertainment so that's a baller amount of hours out of it.

Does it just play like a traditional twin-stick? The stratagems sound fun but I don't know much about them so far.
>>
Yeah it's kind of on the pricey side for what it is, but it's worth it. Especially if you have friends to play it with.

The DLC isn't. Even at the cheapest, you're paying half the price of the entire game for niche gadgets most of which you'll probably never use.

Strategems are kind of like the magicks in Magicka where you need to input a button combination, the difference is they have cooldowns and sometimes limited uses per mission. You can equip 4 per mission, and there's a bunch of different ones(revive teammates, call for air support, call for a weapon/ammo/support item, call down vehicles/turrets, etc).
I highly recommend it
>>
>>321627417
Do the missions really get repetitive as soon as people say? Does it not get really boring really fast if so?
>>
>>321627642
I only have about 6 hours but I'm still loving it just as much as when I first started, maybe even more. You start off with pretty basic equipment but soon enough you get access to tanks, mechs, apcs etc. It's super fun and just the atmosphere and the overall feel of the game keeps it fresh for me. In addition they have this system where you're at war with 3 races, once one is defeated they are removed from the campaign map for the duration of the war. You get bonuses for beating specific planets etc.
Really, there's quite a bit of content to experience so I think the game was well worth it.
>>
>>321627220
You start with your primary, a pistol, and grenades. All your additional shit whether it be airstrikes, huge machine guns, rocket launchers, or ammo packs get called down through stratagems.

You hold the radio button (which causes your character to kneel down in place) and dial whatever combo is required for the strategem you want on the Dpad. Then you have a little signal beacon you throw like a grenade.

Depending what you called in it will show up in a certain amount of time. If it's an airstrike that's self explanatory. If it's something like ammo packs or a jumpjet backpack it'll come down in a hellpod that slams into the ground ODST style killing anything it hits. Even you.

In order to respawn teammates you must use the reinforcement stratagem and they come down in hellpods as well.

60 hours in and I'm not bored
>>
>>321627642
I'm 40hrs guy. I'm at the point where I've seen the same mission objectives many many times by now obviously. The trick is that each mission's map is randomly generated, and you dont necessarily know what kind of shit your teammates are going to pull.

That, and the ever present struggle to control the natural chaos of the game seems to be keeping it very fun for me. Also I want to upgrade all the things.
>>
So what the hell is this game? A 3rd person shooter?

>>321628335
You pick a sector belonging to an alien race(there are 3) and do missions in that sector to drive them out. Every mission completed in that sector adds to the global influence meter for that sector, and if it gets filled you push on to the next sector until you reach their home planet. Then the community is given 48 hours to defeat them on their home planet(do basically the same thing), at which point that race is removed from the campaign. This continues for about a month and then a new campaign starts.
It's kind of neat, and it's possible to lose if the community doesn't get enough points fast enough.
>>
>>321628814
Sounds fun. I'll check if there's a demo to try it out
>>
Fuck this game just out of principle.
>they put so much effort in the dlc they can charge us!
Fuck you if you think this way. There are games out there like Valkyria Chronicles and DQ Heroes that don't pull this kind of shit. The DLC practice for this game is horrendous and the dev's excuse pathetic.

>>
>>321629121
Would you rather have a game for twenty bucks, or a game with all sorts of extra garbage weapons for forty bucks? You're given a choice now.
>>
This is what you do.
1. Download Alien Swarm (it's free on Steam)
2. Play it
3. If you liked it, buy Helldivers

simple as that
>>
We have a lot of threads asking whether the game is worth buying, but no threads setting up games.

What's the matter, you want to live forever?
>>
>>321629261
Valkyria Chronicles is twenty bucks that includes the game and all four DLC. Lightning Returns is twenty dollars with all 10+ but 1 DLC costume. GG Xrd is giving all character/color pallet for free until next month, which is DLC that has much more effort put in it than anything of HELLDIVERS. The fact that you think including all the extra garbage should jack up the price at all with all things considered is mind boggling.
>>
>>321629607
I'm probably about to play for a few hours if anybody wants some backup. Steam name should be Blu3Haz3.

I'm level 20 or something like that but I don't mind playing with any level of player.
>>
>>321630009
Designing so many different weapons, dialing in the physics, and balancing them seems at least as difficult as palette swaps to me. But whatever.

If you don't think it's worth it don't fucking buy it. It's that easy. You don't see me crying big baby tears about cawadoody map packs.
>>
So the Arc Thrower is good for something, blowing up cyborg ass.
>>
>>321630048
Alright.

Anyone else up for some level 9 missions on Cyborg home planet?
>>
>>321630227
Yeah, cherry pick that one thing to justify helldiver's dlc practice and just gleam over everything before that.

CoD isn't even a console port with DLC already released, so not sure why you're bringing that shit here. And don't worry I won't buy it. Was just passing by to say the devs are shit. Cya :)
>>

>>
>>321632769
I wish I knew too, I'm holding off but also want to play it.

Does anybody have any experience with the DLC? Is any of it pretty much essential or can I skip it altogether and not miss out?
>>
>Magicka
I wasn't aware of that. Loved the hell out of both Mgickas.
Can you play it solo? Is it fun solo?
>>
>>321632769
No

>>321632886
None of it is essential, all the best stuff is in the base game. There's some unique niche gadgets in the DLC packs but most of it is just sidegrades.
>>
>>321632886
I haven't noticed anything essential. All the stuff that's used heavily comes with the base game. Recoilless Rifle for armored targets, AutoTurrets for squishy stuff.

Most of the DLC weapons seem pretty showy and situational. I still havent found a reliable use for the mortar launcher.
>>
>>321626190

The game has been out since March, it's cross platform between PS and PC so I doubt it's going to "die" any time soon.
>>
Should I get it on PC or Vita?
Always wanted a twin stick shooter to play when I'm away but feel like I'll be missing the bigger picture with all the multiplayer and updates in the future.
>>
>>321633506
I don't know how the game is on Vita, but the higher difficulties are legitimately challenging. Precise controls help a lot.

>>
>>321634957
loading times are a hardware issue, the better your PC the shorter the loading time

controls are good apart from aiming which is kind of awkward, but there's been a lot of complaints about that so they might fix it after the holidays
>>
>>321635431
The aiming is still awkward?

Fuck, how bad is it?
Is it like instead of having the free aim you should with a mouse/analog stick instead it's more like you get the 8 directions instead?

Cause that really hurt playing the game on vita
>>
>>321635653
No you do have completely free aim, it's just that the cursor only appears when you actually aim, and it always appears in front of your character. So it's just clunky.
>>
>>321626190
I've been thinking of buying this game, should I?

I've been wanting to buy something just for fun, but I feel like I might end up wasting my money.

>>321633039
>Can you play it solo?
You can play up to very hard solo.
>Is it fun solo?
It's a lot slower playing by yourself, and not nearly as fun. I've only ever done it as a change of pace from multiplayer.
>>
>>321634957
>loading screens were hella long
Thats because of the psvita. And when playing ps3/ps4 version, you always knew who was on a vita because it would take an extra minute longer to load the game.

>the controls were real wonky
Once again, this is because you played it on vita.
>>
>>321626830
>I highly suggest looking up some sort of basic tips thing, because there are a lot of little details about combat and enemy types that can actually change your behavior a lot if you're aware of them.

Please do this, it's fucking horrible to play with a team who spends 5 minutes between each objective wasting ammo on endless horses of enemies and setting off alarms at every possible moment. I just had my first rage quit with this game because of a shit team.
>>
>>321639256
It's even more frustrating playing with someone constantly sprinting at the edge of the screen yelling at you to Move!
>>
>>321639368
What? Literally the only thing you need to do is keeping moving until you get to an objective. Once an enemy scout sets off the alarm, pretty much an unending wave of enemies keeps coming if you stay still. So if you don't keep moving you are playing the game wrong.

You call down ammo and shit either at the very beginning, or when you get to the next objective.
>>
>>321639864
I bought the game to shoot aliens.
>>
>>321639864
While I agree that you should always be moving from objective to objective, the anon you replied to has a legitimate complaint. If one person is running at the edge of the screen it really fucks with the entire team, enemies will set off alarms from offscreen and just complicate everything.

The best way to move across the map is in a tight group, killing alarm-triggering enemies quickly from as far away as possible. That's pretty much impossible when you have one teammate who's just trying to rush ahead of everyone else.
>>
>>321640365
You keep moving and checking your radar while killing scouts on the way to the objective. Then you kill the aliens when you get to the objectives. If you just want to sit in the same place and kill and unending wave, they have a game mode for that.
>>
>>321640489
So you're the asshole always at the edge of the screen getting everyone else killed.

Thanks, asshole.
>>
>>321637743
For bugs and illuminati, I go with the double freedom and grenade launcher strategem. For cyborgs, I'll use the justice but rely heavily on offensive strategems. Fully upgraded bunker busters are great for spamming.

>>321640797
No because hugging the edge of the screen gets you killed. But you are that kid who just can't be told anything because you already know everything.
>>
>>321640937
What, do you think I just sit still and not understand that there are objectives to do? No.

But have you never played with that one guy who literally only runs towards the edge of the screen and deliberately FAILS all missions he can just to do the mission as fast as possible? That asshole.
>>
>>321637743
Scythe and EAT against Bugs.
Arc Thrower and EAT against Cyborgs. (try it, works extremely well.
Breaker and the grenade launcher against Illuminants.
>>
>>321641213
>Arc Thrower and EAT against Cyborgs. (try it, works extremely well.
I never gave the arc thrower a good change, I'll try this one out. Cyborgs are the fucking worst, too.
>>
>>321637743
Strafing runs for days
Vindicator for armor

Guns belong on aircraft, spaceships and boats.
>>
Just got done playing my first missions with people. Holy shit the difficulty ramps up like crazy.
>>
>>321641453
It's only worthwhile against Cyborgs. Very good at just instagibbing packs of dogs and two patrols (in one shot).

Not much damage output against the bigger guys however, it's all about that big alpha damage to take out low/medium targets. One charged shot will take out an entire pack of those white berserker motherfuckers.

Keep in mind that the weapon is very awkward at first since it works completely differently from everything else.
>>
>>321641558
>two strafing runs
>two bunker busters
>never ending hellfire
>>
Today I learned that the personal shield generator pack prevents you from being affected by the stasis field.

Fuck you bugs, you can't touch me now.
>>
I understand this game is on Vita, how well does it run? I've been thinking about buying it on there.
>>
>>321637743
Fully upgraded level 18 rifle is the best one by far against any race (not sure what it's called)

Against Cyborgs you NEED reliable anti-tank ready at all times, because tanks show up in patrols. RL-112 with backpack on another person is recommended, the more the better. If you sound the alarm you still need the anti-tank very much. Other than that most enemies just die to the level 18 rifle just fine, especially since it has piercing.

Against Illuminate you do not need anti-tank, HOWEVER, if the objective is to destroy shielded things, don't use the hellbomb, bring the one-shot bazookas or an RL-112 purely to kill these things.

Against Bugs you once more need anti-tank very much, killing tentacle things without anti-tank is fucking terrible, and the chargers are incredibly dangerous.

When going for maximum stealth I get
Bugs: Tesla towers makes you immune to detection while securing an objective against bugs if you have good coverage. Incendiary drop is good for blocking off pathways in a time of need. The HAV or APC will kill patrols before they sound the alarm but it is not very reliable in the long run.
Cyborgs: Tesla towers are okay against Cyborgs but you need to pick off tanks INSTANTLY. Incendiary is also okay against Cyborgs aside fro the tanks. The best way to avoid Cyborgs is really to just be sneaky, being prone makes it hard for them to detect you, and it's easy to kill them before they can sound the alarm.
Illuminate: Tesla towers ar entirely useless against them. Incendiary is however excellent for blocking off areas and vision. I like to bring a non-dlc exosuit and just spray randomly at sides not covered by fire while my teammate picks off observers behind fire. The exosuit has enough ammunition to fire for ~55 seconds if I recall correctly.
>>
>>321641647
I like you. You can come over to my house and fuck my sister!
>>
Any bayonet love? It's actually relatively powerful and pretty quick.
>>
>>321642059
I've been meaning to, because regular melee is actually pretty powerful, but I keep spending research on other things.
>>
>>321641909
Justice is very good but it's not the be all end all ultimate weapon of the game. It's more of a jack of all trades, good for everything but not excelling at anything. Which makes sense since it's part of the assault rifle line-up which is supposed to be very generic.
>>
>>321642059
Bayonet is nice, might as well get it. Can kill cyborg dogs in one hit.

PRO TIP: For maximum display of prowess make sure to use bayonet melee and start sprinting instantly afterwards for running with your bayonet pointed out.

>>321642215
Tremendous ammo, perfect rate of fire, can kill the sturdiest of enemies in a singular clip, good aim, piercing shot, what's not to like?
>>
>>321642215
Jack of all trades, master of none,
though oftentimes better than master of one
>>
>>321642193
It can take down a wounded bug warrior that goes on a berzerk charge in one hit, though I'm not sure about bug elites. Plus extends melee distance a good amount.
