That game makes me feel nervous.
I hate that you can't fight back. I get they want to give you this sense of vulnerability and helplessness, but it's possible to make a horror game but still have combat.
>>
>>321619379

For me, I don't really get scared if I'm given a weapon in a game. I just feel so powerful.

I'm not sure why, maybe I haven't played the right game that gives you a weapon that makes you shit youself.
>>

HOW ABOUT SILENT HILL DOWNPOUR ANON?
>>
Spookys house of jumpscares is actually really good for a simple horror game that doesnt take itself too seriously. The atmosphere is really good actually and it kinda feels like a love letter to a bunch of other horror games. It's also free.

Ayylmao isolation actually isn't that long. It only takes 3-4 hours after you know what you're doing.

It seems long because the alien can be so oppressive to unlearned players that they find it difficult to make any progress in certain periods of the game AKA medical and the hive.

Stalker is the scariest non-horror game that comes to mind. It's spoopy by virtue of having superb atmosphere.

>Entering the lab in Dark Valley for the first time
>Going underground in general
>The first time a blowout happens
>>
>>321619884
Sounds like me anon. I turn to horror stuff because its really hard for me to get spooked IRL unless im in actual danger. If i can fight my way through a game its so much less scary.

Eversion has a mechanic that I always wondered why other games never used. Probably would be a marketing issue for most.

Best scary games I've played:
>Amnesia: TDD
>Dead Space
>Fatal Frame
>Condemned
>Exmortis 3 (and the first two, which are flash games)

I still think Amnesia is possibly the most well-done horror game of recent gens. Outlast and A:I are good and obviously inspired by it, but Outlast scares are too cheap at times (though occasionally well done, like the first Walrider sighting which actually made me pause the game and take off my headphones) and A:I isn't scary enough except for when the actual alien is sneakin' up on you.

Also, the first Condemned is underrated for how creepy it is - especially towards the second half once the paranormal shit really cranks up a notch.

I was thinking about Enemy Zero for Saturn. The game itself it's not a great horror experience but the mechanic of invisible enemies that only can be found by a beeping sound (the closer the monster, the faster the sound is) and basically shoot blindly made the game had some tense moments.
>>
>>321622523
Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube pretty much rips off Lovecraft for the underlying, "old gods"-y story. It's not very spooky in the gameplay itself (other than the sanity effects which are fucking great), but it's good none the less.

I feel like resident evil had the perfect balance

You had weapons, but due to the scarcity of ammo & health items you were forced to decide if fighting was worth it or not

How the fuck do you feel that empowered in FF?

FF is VERY good at making you feel weak and vulnerable actually. Yes the Camera Obscura can 'kill' ghosts, but you're still not really that fast, the camera itself isn't given that much ammo most of the time, you have to be careful with using ammo, etc.

Illbleed for Dreamcast it's a great horror game with B-movies style. It was kind of original with the idea of entering in theaters with B-movies like scenarios and disarming traps.

We need more horror games like The Evil Within. And I don't mean the confusing plot and Resident Evil action bullshit. I mean having multiple horror environments instead of just being in one place with all the same scenery. That was the charm of that. There were always different places you'd go.
>>
>>321619775

I felt Evil Within was one of the best horror titles we've gotten in awhile. It was a better Resident Evil than anything past 4, and even managed to include a pretty cool Pyramid-Head-inspired monster that didn't offend my Silent Hill fanboy side. My only complaints were how it started off pretty open with who you killed and sneaking, but quickly turned into "kill everything to proceed," and the last boss.

I can only get through games that are secondary horror games, like the Resident Evil games or Dead Space

Anything else where the main point is to scare the living shit out of you just mentally breaks me and puts me on RL edge for awhile
>>
>>321625076
I feel like it really started to ditch the classic survival horror aspect right after the first chapter in the asylum. Another fact that it felt to sci-fi/anime-like. I kinda expected a more Silent Hill 2 themed plot with a title like "The Evil Within".
>>
>>321625076

What about Clock Tower 3?, aside for the sailor moon transformation and boss fighting it was interesting the idea of having serial killers looking for you and the (annoying at the same time) moments when the character enter into panic and starting runing around.

The original Silent Hill-trilogy is still the greatest set of psychological survival-horror games ever made. If you people wanna play them on PC, in glorious HD, you can grab them here:

SH1 NTSC DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!bVUCTJzD!PmnPw4S7fWGyvTjw9S0-RQdk7rRp2BQNuXJqRkZCZvk

SH2 DDL:

SH3 torrent:

SH4 torrent: Kickass torrents

And in case someone's once again new to this PC gaming stuff: Use a program like DaemonTools Lite to mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" enables widescreen resos, fixes the slow transitions, and works as a no-cd crack as well. It is included in the pack.

This year kicked ASS for Horror.

>A new (and amazing) Fatal fucking Frame
>Until Dawn which was a great teen horror
>SOMA which kept the Amnesia format strong
>A new Resident Evil that was actually good and starred BARRY BURTON
>A re-release of REmake for all the consoles
>Bloodborne which was the only good Lovecraftian game ever
>Handhelds even got a Dementium re-release
>Dying Light managed to make open world Zombie-fests tense
>Higurashi finally made it's way onto Steam
>A brand new Corpse Party came out in the West for Vita
>Indies kicked it up a notch with Spooky's House of Jumpscares
>Even fucking FN@F got its shit together and had a good 4th entry

2015 was so good for a horror fan.
Fatal Frame was my favorite
>>
>>321625741
My interpretation was that the end boss never actually happened.

Think about it, people directly influence the STEM system when connected to it. Ruvik was the main influence, but just prior to the final boss, Ruvik escapes after taking over Leslie's body. Sebastien is the only one left inside STEM. So what does he do with total control over the system? He projects himself as a "hero" and has Ruvik (who's not there by this point) transform into a big dumb monster where Sebastien can fight him in the air with a jeep and survive being impaled on a piece of metal after being flung 200ft through the air. After the fight he finds "Ruvik's brain" and crushes it.

None of that actually happens though. In reality he's still trapped inside STEM until Kidman finally releases him. By that point Ruvik has already fucked off and hijacked Leslie.

I thought it was an amazing ending.

Neat for what it was, but glitched to high heaven. It treats Lovecraft with about as much respect as Shadow of Mordor treated Tolkien. Being able to kill Father fucking Dagon with a couple of pistol bullets severely triggered me.
