Serious answer: The Neptunia games starting with Victory or Rebirth 1 are kind of okay. Not great by any means, certainly with a lot of faults, but they can be fun, light JRPGs. The cute girls are definitely the reason they sell the way they do, but as games they're okay. Like, 6/10-ish.
Now if anyone claims to like the original Hyperdimension Neptunia, then you know they're only in it for cute girls, because holy shit everything about that game is legitimately fucking terrible.

That aside, the Neptunia series is a love letter to anyone who consumes large amounts of Japanese games and anime (read: anyone with taste). They're great games, and the cute girls are icing on top. I wouldn't want to play nothing but Neptunia, but one or two a year is perfect.

I remember reading somewhere that HDN was such a train wreck that mk2 almost didn't happen, and that they added the Conquest End as a way to end the series forever if mk2 sold like shit.
