Modded wireless xbox 360 controller.
The mod exists to fix the absolutely shitty d-pad.
You'll need a dremmel and a 1.5mm plastic washer.
After the fix, the dpad will feel tighter, have tactile feedback (it clicks) and diagonals will actually work reliably.
Differs from game to game, platform to platform.
Made this sneaky little bitch for my SNES emulation.

What's worse is that the nubbin WANTS to work on my joystick. If I unplug my x52 after extended play, the brain-dead driver for the nubbin kicks in and tries to emulate shit from the joystick that's disconnected. Then all my mouse-inputs lag my computer and I HAVE to hard-restart my computer.
Of course, madcatz has no fix for this just "make sure you're downloading the latest driver!".

I had read this before, Saitek apparently has had bad batches in the past with dead analog components. Even when they work, they are better used as a hat switch than precise analog stick.

Well it's wierd, because I can tell that the components are functional, it's just that the software for it is wack.
If I open up the configuration software for the joystick, I can jiggle the nubbin, and click the "mouse", and it'll show me that I'm pressing these inputs. However, all other software does not recognize these inputs.
But if it turns out I just got a lemon, then shit. I think I'm out of warrantee.

I've had one of these for just as long. It's been dropped, thrown, stepped on and it's still solid. I prefer my dual shock 3 because it's lighter and imo the D pad is a bit better but the usb is wearing out so I'll probably be using this again eventually.
I just use the DS4. It's almost always connected to my PC anyways due to its shit battery life, plus the touchpad button is great for bringing up the Retroarch menu.

From what I hear CH sticks are far superior as far as high end hotas go.
The tm warthog is metal outside, but plastic inside meanwhile ch sticks have metal innards and last forever. They've been in production for like 2 decades now and there are very few reports of malfunctions.
But that's what I've heard. I'm too poor so I just have a x52 pro.
