Times you listened to /v/

I bought these two pieces of shit recently, instantly refunded.
Care to elaborate what makes them good?
To me they're fucking garbage.

If you bought them then instantly refunded then you didn't give them a chance

Lol, basically they're both very broken games that are hard to get into that blow your mind if you actually bother to. Knights 2 is the closest thing we have to a deconstruction of Star Wars and Vampire ... Well, there's nothing else quite like Vampire. It's Deus Ex's mentally ill cousin.
>>
>>321587508
>KoTOR 2
>deconstruction of Star Wars
There were already novels and comics doing that about the Force years before KoTOR existed.
>>
>>321587930

Oh well, I've never heard of them anyway.

At least it's the only video game.
>>
>>321588048
Well I have. Ultimately all KoTOR 2's message is "do the means justify the ends?" in a nutshell.
>>

Kotor 2 is basically Planescape: Torment with lightsabers.

I remember being so hyped when KoTOR 1 came out back in 2003, I probably was 15 years old and put about 40+ hours in my first playthrough on the Xbox

I bought kotor2 because I hear people like it her and god damn this game has not aged well. I'm too old for this shit.

the combat was boring and then got stupid hard when there was more than 2 enemies on me

So I guess you've never played an action game before?
>>
>>321589582

Have you ever enjoyed a hack and slash game? I think many would agree it's one of the best in the genre. The combat is incredibly well-made, the game has very high replayability and it has lots of really cool setpieces. The music and graphics are stellar too. And the story is completely nuts. Of course, if you were expecting a normal Metal Gear game, you would be disappointed ...
>>
>>321585318
Besiege was pretty great, I got that after seeing all the besiege threads and when's on /v/. Funniest game I've played in 2015.

u wot m80
the only similarities is that they're rpgs with stealth
the minute-to-minute gameplay, design philosophy, and rpg mechanics are night and day between the two
deus ex isn't even that good of an rpg, at least mechanically

2 is not unplayable by any means there is just no reason to not have the patch since it adds content
>>
>>321585318
The part of /v/ that praises them is the hard-core PC fanbase. The game itself is broken as fuck, aged like milk, has clunky gameplay, and the only reason PC gamers praise it is because it's not on any console. They here off to the "choices" and dialogue, despite (like Torment) you are better off reading a book.

It's not really comparable to anything, but certainly not DX. It's not even first person most of the time. The only similarities is that they have stealth and reactive stories. Combat, dialogue, and character progression between the two are vastly different. You might as well say the game's like Alpha Protocol.

>>
>>321592061

It is in first person most of the time. Maybe the details of how you develop your characters and stuff is different, but the core structure of the game is the same.

Alpha Protocol I would call poor man's Splinter Cell with story choices that actually have impact.
>>
>>321592204

>mouse click doesnt work despite it being needed for multiple essential game mechanics
>look up the problem
>can only be fixed by either downloading mods or modifying a file that disables cutscenes (aka the fucking intro cutscene to the fucking game)
>instantly refund

Broken, miserable garbage.

>B-B-But download mods to fix the game and it's good!
>E-Epic troll! XD!

No. Fuck Off. I shouldn't have to download external files just so your fucking garbage game can actually work, make it playable as is, fucking pathetic.
>>
>>321585318
I bought KotOR 1 for $3.00 on Steam.

I refunded it not because the game was good or bad, but because I literally couldn't play it on Windows 10 and my "Google for fixes"-fu is weak. To this day, it's the only Steam game out of about 75 in my library that I ever refunded.
>>
>>321592335
>Maybe the details of how you develop your characters and stuff is different, but the core structure of the game is the same.
Then the core structure really isn't the same, is it? If the character progression systems are different, the combat is different, the quest design is different, and the roleplaying mechanics are different, you can't really say they're similar. VtM has about as much in common with New Vegas or The Witcher as it does with Deus Ex.
>>
>>321585318
Funny, though I played KOTOR 2 first years ago I played VTMB because of /v/ mostly and it's my favorite game, with KOTOR 2 in the top ten
>>
>>321588970
>It takes 3 or 4 hours to get into the game properly

Yeah, and if you stuck your hand on a hot oven for 3 or 4 hours im sure it wouldn't be painful by then either, don't make that shitty excuse

Make your game exciting the entire way through, or you've fucking failed as a game developer.
>>
I really don't get why the KotORs are so highly recommended when they're such broken pieces of shit. Especially the second one.
>>
>>321593453

New Vegas, Morrowind etc. do actually have a lot in common with games like Deus Ex and Vampire. The difference is that Deus Ex/Vampire have very small, but incredibly detailed environments. Games like Witcher, Mass Effect and Dragon Age are somewhere in between.

congratz, you got replies
>>
>>321593474
So you're calling developers who have made pretty great RPGs, failed developers?
FF7 took a good 4-5 hours before you get to play the game properly. Then again I am responding to someone on /v/ who uses shit analogies, next time use subway.
>>
>>321593925
except FF7 had a great intro, full of good story, characters and gameplay in its opening minutes, that's how you make a good game

In KOTOR 2 you roll around some shitty broken ship as a fucking droid picking up parts and finding out the fucking mouse click doesn't work.

I'm sorry you can't accept that KOTOR is overhyped, actually broken trash, but thats just the way it is, deal with it nerd.
>>
>>321593474
this has to be bait
>>
>>321587418
Peragus is fantastic on the first playthrough. It's some great horror with an atmosphere that lingers until you reach Malachor V.
>>
>>321594554
Actually I do, I'm not a fan of Star Wars or KOTOR.
FF7 did have a great intro but it dramatically slowed down and stopped being fun in various places to teach the player how the game works,. The game becomes absolutely great when it finally opens up to you, and, albeit with spikes of greatness before, between that the game is quite mediocre until it opens up for the grand experience.
>>
>>321595313
Exactly, FF7s opening hours arent all bliss but they contain just the right amount of greatness to keep you interested, KOTOR 2 has literally none of that, from what I understand there are entire mods to skip the entire opening sequence to get to 'the good stuff'

I repeat, I should not have to download multiple external files just so your game can be considered enjoyable, that is precisely a failure in design.

And I forgot to mention one thing about FF7, despite tastes and flaws, the game is actually playable at the very least, Having to modify files just so KOTOR can actually fucking WORK is blunder of the year material.

Can't wait for these other 2 retards to post more 'this is bait' replies without providing any actual counter argument.
>>
>>321594554
