I finished it a few weeks ago. Never have I played a more broken game. Still was worth the cheap change it cost me during the steam sale.

Also they say that the english translation is shit but the french version is arguably worse. It was probably just written in broken frenglish from the start and nobody went back to fix it apparently. The community-made patch is not too bad however but I would recommend making the first playthrough with the original "it's so bad it's good" version.

It's not like the patch makes the story understandable anyway.

Finished it 3 times and reached the floating island with nothing to do but break the seal you're not supposed to break. Then I finished it a few times after that using my godly powers since the enemies don't scale.

I also tried to grind the last research objects but only managed to find one after spending one hour mowing the enemies in new eden. It seems the game is pretty picky about which kinds of kills drop researches which annoyed me (I think turret/clone kills don't count and also sword kills for some reason. Just Eye Things.).

Is the multiplayer (co-op or arena/whatever) live enough to merit spending money, or should I just get it for the single-player?

It depends.
During/after a big sale there are a bunch of people quite similar to yourself that don't quite know how to play the game, and often get frustrated and ragequit any of the PvP modes. After a sale, you might still see a few people, but the already small population is diminished further, and some days you're lucky if one person is playing co-op.

Pretty much, buy it, play it now, and get ready to play it when you see an EYE thread up.

I really don't think so. Using turrets I would never get any suitcase ever.

I put three of them around the corner of a spawn point in new eden, set the spawn rate to the max and waited for a few minutes, mowing down maybe a hundred enemies and no suitcase to be found.

I also didn't get any drop messing with the excalibur but maybe I was just unlucky.

Anyway the drop rate for those last 5 items is absurd. After like four playthroughs I only found one of them.

I might as well just cheat to get the items instead. It's just silly. They should have hidden those items instead or given them as rewards from certain enemies. Setting the drop rate to "once in a million" is just lazy.

It's not so much one in a million, it's that each enemy has a chance at dropping brief cases, and then each brief case has a chance at giving you a certain research item, usually garbage like the infinite multitudes of ZOB13 or whatever it's called. The farm map partially alleviates this bullshit by spawning two mirrion briefcases per second, though you've got to sit there for another ten minutes or so to fill out your research items.

You can easily farm the Deus Ex with the sniper rifle from the stone bridge in Mars (right next to the place with the huge "weed" screen). You can also shoot down the planes/vtols as they spawn which will grant you a massive amount of brousoufs and XP. I find that the rest of the game doesn't grant you nearly enough brousouf given the price of a lot of equipment and research so that's the place to do it unless you want to use the framing map.

XP and Brouzouf gains scale with difficulty, so jack it up as high as you can handle to minimize the amount of grinding you'll have to do. If you play on Ghost you can get enough brouzouf out of the tutorial mission to buy the cloak on your first visit to the HQ, which you'll definitely need to survive.
