Glass is the single most important artifact in the game bar none, turning the game from a boring slugfest where everything takes a million years to die into a fast and dynamic experience. Look up the wiki on how to unlock the Glass artifact. Play on Drizzle to do it, it'll still unlock. This is the single most important thing you need to do. The game gets ten times better with it. After that, work on unlocking the other shit.

Rushing bosses and advancing will get you killed very easily if you don't know what you are doing and if you have awful items. You have to find the right balance of farming and boss killing before bosses just start spawning on their own.

looping is a better experience than going straight to final level since you're making yourself very OP which surprisingly doesn't get old. Assuming you're going vanilla, looping is good when you have good/decent RNG on items or could still handle the mobs. Vanilla commando with decent RNG isn't recommended though. Damage falls very fast.
