Anyone on /v/ done a Mini ITX build before? How difficult were the choices of case and components?
PC building thread as well
Here's my mini-ITX build desu
>>321524213
>buying overpriced pre-built trash
used a bitfenix prodigy case
Asus P8Z77-I mobo
7870 for the GPU (case supports it) but now I have 290x
The choice of cases gets broader with each day, some with even surprisingly lot of space for proper cable management.
>>321524412
This anon is right, don't buy prebuilds, do it yourself. sometimes you can manage to get even below the price of a standard tower.
I always assume that minis were for people who live in icy parts of northern europe that also generally don't get a lot of dust.
Warm memo that PCs are mega cheap.
>>321528937
I was thinking of building a mini itx pc for my grangran to replace her mid tower. She just needs some emails and 1080 youtube streaming. Or should I just get a NUC?
Coolest ITX case coming throught
>>321529163
A nuc would be fine or a APU can probably be better if you can get it for cheap
Plan to get this in 4-6 weeks, depends how many hours I get at work.
>>321531710
>970 - $519
..
>>321532087
I've been burnt too many times from buying tech on ebay, it's not worth it. I wait, save and spend the extra dosh to get shit brand new from a reputable wholesaler.
>>321532334
It shouldn't ever seem a problem if you have a whole PC to test before the return window is up.
With that, it's a video card. It's not as if the majority of 970 owners have even had the card but for a little bit. There are still functional 8800 cards..
>>321531710
Your fucking income is higher than ours so it balances out
Over there it's $17.29
While here it's 10 bucks
Stop bitching
>>321532867
*minimum wage not income
>>321532867
>10 bucks
It's 7.25
>>321532993
FUCKING DELETE THIS YOU PIECE OF SHIT
>>321531710
>>321532993
Protip: that's the US equivalent of $688.52
>>321532993
Oh I'm getting paid 10 bucks an hour as a desk security guard which is the lowliest and easiest job so I figured it was minimum wage.
>>321532993
Maybe I should move to Australia...
>>321523913
>>321529624
>side window
If it doesn't improve your performance, it don't belong in your rig
>building a PC now with pascal on the way in a mere 6 months*
Heh, pretty stupid if you ask me....
*6 months based on best projections from leading internet rumor mills, may be subject to change. Release in 6 months may or may not be a paper release which means the release is not a true release where you can actually purchase the items in question. Please wait for more information.
>>321533232
culture isn't worth it. We're full of soccer mums and muslim apologists.
>>321523913
what case is that OP?
>>321533297
pffft, the next big thing is always coming out in the next few month, once pascal hits you'll be telling him to wait for whatever the next iteration
>>321532993
I get paid dubble that amount working at Walmart overnight, though I've had incremental raises over the past eight years of employment.
>>321533297
*With arctic islands coming soon
Nvidia about to get promptly BTFO
>>321533138
They probably pay you more if you're working at night or if there's a chance you could get killed during your shift.
>>321533232
Have you seen how much vidya costs there? Minimum wage is higher, but that probably means all products are more expensive.
This is speculation from a Murican.
>>321523913
Are those black things in the corners legs? Why would the bottom of the case be transparent?
>>321523913
Mini builds do look sexy, but they are more or less a meme at the moment.
>very high temperatures in a cramped case
>very loud noise from smaller fans working harder
>unless you are carting your desktop around all the time (this is what laptops are for) do you really need a computer that small?
>>321533138
I work security in Alabama and make $12. Seek a different company, Allied Barton pleb.
>>321533960
>do you really need a computer that small?
How am I supposed to stand out on a /g/uts thread?
>>321534036
I work a deskjob and watch Netflix for 6 hours in an 8 hour shift and get $15/hr.
>>321534149
hot glue a bunch of christmas lights to a laptop?
>>321533709
>> >>321533129
You can't get that PC for $690USD. It's more like $1000+ with all of that stuff. The little stuff like network adapters and optical drives are the same price. The keyboard is as well.
The problem with implying that other markets are more expensive is that, e.g., food markets are so competitive from volume that they should stay low.
>>321531710
No mouse, btw.
>>321533272
>Pros: Being able to check your fans and the like without needing to open up your case.
>Cons: Nothing.
It's just a piece of see-through plastic, Captain Autism.
Choosing components was fun for me, but it was definitely harder than usual. Had to search for exactly how much clearance I'd have between board and side of the case. The NCASE is fucking perfect though - it makes a lot of that searching easier. It supports two AiO 120mm coolers for cpu and gpu if you want that, but personally I'm happy with temps from big air.
i5-4670k OC'd to 4.2 never gets over 60C, even the legendarily hot r9 290 stays pretty cool with that 120mm directly underneath it. I undervolted it and set a custom fan profile so it's never audible over my speakers or headphones, never throttles due to heat, but my next project is to repaste it and see if I can OC.
>>321534454
I already have a desktop set up, but my sister's using it and it's clogged full of shit from the years of family use. It's pretty decent.
Got an i5, HD7850, 8gb of ram and 2 HDD's with shitloads of games. Now that I think about it I'm probably better off buying a 970 on it's own and waiting for the rest of the parts later.
>>321533592
Nvidia already BTFO desu. Got my 290 for a hundred dollars less than the cheapest 970, new, and it outperforms it on most games.
>>321524412
>299 considered overpriced
>>321534937
Protip: fresh install, but setting a restore image. Reverting back to that state uninstalls all programs and reverts the registry and startup, but all the files are still there -- documents, non-EXE game files, etc.
Recommended GPU/CPU combo for 1080p/60fps gaming?
>>321524213
>le 30 FPS 720p box
Fucking leave.
>>321533960
They can be good if you go to lan parties, way cheaper than a gaymurr laptop
>>321535554
i7 and titan x
>go big or go home
>>321535554
There's a bunch, but the most common you'll probably hear is any i5 + gtx 970
>>321535748
I would be using the PC at home.
>>321535808
Thanks, amigo.
>>321534036
Do you literally sit at a desk and do nothing like me?
This is also my first job literally no experience so I need at least a year before I can try applying elsewhere.
>>321535406
It's not $299 anymore.
Equivalent-priced PCs are way more powerful, especially including online or getting used PC parts.
>>321523913
as >>321533960 said, theres not much point.
It's gonna be more cramped and harder to build in, higher temps and poor cable management, and it still won't be anymore portable unless its small as something like the hadron air which can fit in a roomy backpack but most mini itx case wont.
I got this
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hRgtMp
Works bretty gud
>>321532993
>live in commiefornia
>min wage is going to jump to $15 here
>McDonalds has already started phasing out cashiers for tablet kiosks
Its got its ups and downs. Mostly downs.
Node 304
4670k at 4.5ghz
970 OCd
3x 3.5" hdds and an SSD
Works just fine, slightly warmer than it would be in an ATX case, can throw into a bag for LANs.
If you are the type to fiddle with your computer a lot, replacing parts every second week, stick to ATX, otherwise these are an okay choice.
>>321536084
Can you explain to me how that ncase build up there has higher temps? The fans couldn't be pulling in more direct airflow
>>321535867
It's still $499 here.
>>321536839
Everything is closer, there's less room for airflow.
