Thousands of people are getting ready to file lawsuits against Valve first thing Monday

Valve broke washington state law when they failed to properly notify their customers of a privacy and security breach.

Even outside washington, swathes of people are gathering together for their own class action lawsuits for revealing their phone number, address, and even credit card details to other people.

All of this is set to take place Monday.
The end of Valve is here.

Are you Pro-Valve or Against Valve?

Consumers vs Valve is about to begin
Time to get comfy, /v/

I've been ignoring Steam all my life. Because I don't like drm and digital only games. I buy all my games physical and then play the pirated versions while keeping the games in their plastic wrapping.

PC gaming has been getting worse ever since Steam rose to prominence. Developers and the industry have been treating users like second hand customers. Whole genres have died or become mass marked casual shit fests. I miss the late nineties, early 00s when PC was top.

Everyone is seriously misinformed about the nature of this 'breach', along with these non-existent suits.
The caching system fucked up, people saw pages that they were not meant to see.
No one was ever 'logged' into another persons account because of this, they just thought they were.
MAYBE with some of the information randomly gathered someone got their account actually breached. I don't know how, but maybe. You'd need either a really shitty password or disabled the email/phone double check for that to happen though.

DRM isn't really all that much of an issue when you can pirate any game any time. The problem is that there is no real physical support anymore. Games no longer fit on discs and they just put half the game or just steam installer even if you buy physical

Buying modern physical games in some cases just means getting some plastic box. You still have to use steam to download the rest or pirate. No other options.

What we need is a strong competitor so that it's not a shitty monopoly.

On the other hand it was a fuck-up from Valve´s side that they might´ve predicted and fixed beforehand but on the other hand it´s still personal information that is for your eyes only unless you want to make it public for some reason.

>>321520907
I´d buy physical copies of games, thing is that´s for AAA games mostly and those are mainly trash. Most indie and smaller companies can´t make their games physical due to amount of money they´d have to use on printing the discs, trasporting, retails takes part of the money etc. and without some big well known publisher/store it´s tough to sell it and actually make profit.
>inb4 all indies suck and are shovelware

The only reason origin didn't dominate the digital distribution market today is because steam came first.
Ea would certainly grab this opportunity and start a hufe campaign advertising origin and if there is one thing ea does well it's tricking the consumer into thinking their products are good.
If valve go out of business gaming or rather quality of games which already is decreasing will fall significantly.

You'll be surprised what games actually get physical releases. Huniepop for instance has a physical version and that's a $5 kickstarter game. On the other side though, a good big budget game like Metal Gear Rising didn't get physical on PC which sucks because I couldn't buy it even though I enjoyed it. I can give digital a pass for hard to get niche Japanese games.

Like I said many small good quality games get physical but many don't.

Again, what the fuck are you on about? It hasn't been 24 hours since this has happened, and this went down on Christmas day when the majority of the staff isn't at work, they're probably scrambling to get their shit together and give an informed statement of what exactly went down, you can speculate or panic all you want but that's little but your own folly.

First rule of the internet: Don't put fucking personal information anywhere if you don't want it to be public knowledge, because chances are it will be.

>>321522912
This is a myth. Refund law does not apply to digital distribution.
Valve got pressured into offering refunds because customers were fed up with Steam's bad quality control

There's generally a timeframe for such things and that window hasn't closed yet. If I remember correctly, Sony apologized a week after the initial breach of their network. Valve's legal team and Gabe are likely going to put out a statement later today or tomorrow.
