Damage as monk is almost never the issue, it's getting rid of that fucking blood shovel or getting regen so I can make room more confidently. My winning run was a blood spear and crown of thorns with no damage ups, I've lost some pretty ridiculous damage runs because my movement is way too limited.

Try some other characters to cool off and discover things, save Aria for last. You might figure things out that you wouldn't normally if you just died repeatedly on 4-1. Maybe do an itemless Cadence run in preparation so you can get used to daggers and become less dependent on ranged weapons.
