>How bad is the Steam security breach compared to Sony getting hacked?

Barely even comparable. What just happened with Steam is basically the equivalent of a receipt falling out of your pocket while you're in a public place.
>>
Sony
>Couldn't play on PSN for a month
>Nothing happened to my information

Steam
>Some wiggity whack shit for an hour
>Somebody probably saw my purchase history and laughed at me

How could Gaben betray me like this
>>
>>321486690

oh nice argument sonydrone
>>
>>321486690
This, senpai. This Steam incident is an example of what would have happened in the Sony incident if Sony wasn't fully retarded about security.
>>
>>321486981
He probably laughed at the hats I purchased six months ago.
>>
Someone I don't know sent me an email wishing me a Merry Christmas because of it.

It was horrible.

it was totally different. the Sony hack was actual full information. the steam problem was 2 digits of a CC, an email, and 4 digits of a phone number. every time you go to the gas station and someone left a receipt in the pump, they gave you more info than I got from clicking on the steam link today.
>>
Hard to compare.

Sony was actual hacking with hackers actively breaching their security. It caused a far longer lockout with serious consequence, but it was also a deliberate attack.

Steam was just a pure system failure that led to people being open to information theft, but it was much shorter and it was pretty easy to keep safe during it. But nobody tried to force it to happen, it just kinda did. Make of it what you will.

Also is the coast clear can I open Steam again.

---------------------------------------------

SONY
>5 weeks outage while Sony tried to fix the problem
>PSN network is down denying social functions and access to online multiplayer
>Offline games still playable
>Cracker managed to gain access to the PSN database, where user's personal information (name, address, telephone number, and full credit card information) was being stored in unencrypted plain text

STEAM
>2-3 hours of issues before servers were taken offline, likely due to little to no staff on hand thanks to Christmas
>1 hour outage before everything was back up and running
>Steam storefront was down the whole time, denying users the ability to purchase games
>Social functions such as Steam chat were still available
>All games were still playable, including online multiplayer because Valve doesn't handle the servers of third party games (First party games like CSGO and TF2 might have been offline? Anyone confirm?)
>No reason to believe there was malicious intent, seemingly it was a malfunction
>Allowed users to accidentally see purchase history and email for sure, potentially the last 4 digits of a phone number, billing address, or last 4 digits of a credit card number if any of those things were linked to the account
>>
>>321486621

H-hehe... it's a good thing my dick is a quarter of that size, r-right?
>>
>>321486116
When did it happen? I honestly have no idea, that's how little it affected me.
>>
>>321487282
Most people just refreshed the page and tried to relog thinking they got hacked.

Also if you were logged in during the thing you were safe as it was only people who logged in and out during that time.
>>
>>321486116
It was for an hour or two, whereas Sony knew for days about the loss of sensitive info before telling their customers.
>>
>>321486116
Why the fuck do you keep posting him? What did I do to deserve this. I didn't do anything.
>>
Sony. Not even trying to circlejerk about OUR GRORIOUS PEECEE OVERLORDS, but at least Steam blocked transactions and already encrypted passwords/CC info to begin with. Plus, Sony's most infamous breach lasted 5 fucking weeks and happened just when Portal 2 and MK9 released
>>
>>321486683
Valve didn't have enough RAM
>>
>>321488273
Just OP being a huge faggot
>>

Ahahahaha this is how the slope slips. Before it was "steam will never be hacked" now its "it isnt as bad as sony"
>>
>>321486116

>solved within an hour

It doesn't compare.
>>
>>321488875
[citation needed]
>>
>>321488875
it wasnt even hacked it was an error.
>>
>>321486116
Wasn't a breach. It was a cache fuck up. It's actually a pretty novice mistake to make.

Really at that point I'd just lie and say we got hacked so we wouldn't look worse.
>>
>>321488875
>hacked

It would help if you understood the definitions of the crap you say, kiddo.
>>
>>321487503
Haha, and Sonyggers are on full shitpost alert claiming this is worse than anything that ever happened to them.
>>
>>321486116
/v/ loves valve so obviously they pretend like this is nothing
who cares if people got your info, this is valve we're talking about
not some shitty company like sony, i hate sony so much
>>
>>321488875
Except Steam wasn't hacked, it was a simple read-only cache error.

He dyed his hair. For some reason someone dying their hair is really unattractive to me, especially when they leave their eyebrows a natural color.
