DS is ust tryhard.
For example not putting a checkpoint before bosses does not make the game harder. It also doesn't make the boss harder to beat. It just wastes the player's time for no reason, having to run through the map again.
The series has a lot of "wrong kind of difficulty", as in half of the difficulty is more like annoyance and time wasting.

Dragon's Dogma is the Dark Souls of action rpgs.
>>
>>321485420
It's just like a Castlevania game, it's just a push to the next boss - and in Dark Souls 1 most bosses, at least during your first playthrough, are either fun or in some way novel. If your treat it as a sandbox western RPG you plan on playing for every bit of dialogue and every perk relevant to your RP idea, that would be like attacking every wall in Castlevania to find the hidden chicken dinners.

Skyrim isn't the same thing. Dark Souls isn't without flaws, but it does offer a few things that most other games on the market do not. Namely, a good challenge and a myriad of ways to approach that challenge in varying gameplay and tinkering with character builds. While plenty of games have one or the other, only a few have both. And a lot of the games that have both are relatively easy games that let you dial up enemy health and damage but still don't offer an interesting AI to bring the experience together.
>>
>>321484750
Yeah, its more of a bad Skyrim clone.

>>
>>321486816

>>
>>321484750
>>"so it's like souls game?"
That's not an unfair comparison - both are open world, third-person action JRPGs set in a medieval environment.

Playing one of the archer classes with a dodge roll does make it feel like a more technically and mechanically sound Dark Souls, really.
>>
>>321486883
Huge world with some cool (although small) dungeons littered around them. Most of them are Quest related.

Spawn points are static, the only way they change is during the night and after a certain plot point.
>>
>>321486935
>both are open world
Saying that DaS is as Open World as DD is disingenuous. DaS is a bunch of well design areas connected through hallways, that isn't the same as DD.

DD's open world fits more like Red Dead Redemption.
>>
>>321486935
I hope people mod in harder difficulties and unlocking that dodge roll for all classes.

Always thought Mages desperately needed it more then Archers did.
>>
>>321486935
>Dark Souls
>Open World
Yeah, no. You don't know what open world means.
>>
>>321485737
Speaking at least for the first game, this mostly only rings true for a couple bosses bed of chaos and four kings that got all the shit they deserve and maybe 2 or 3 sections of the game Anor Londo and the skippable blight town. Typically, most bosses have a runup that's about 30-45 seconds, and most areas you're having trouble with you can just run by. A lot of the flack this game gets for artificial difficulty is people beating their heads against a wall instead of seeking alternatives.

It's not a flawless game, but I'd rather have a few artificially difficult sections mixed with actually tricky sections, than no real difficulty at all. No game that has little to no difficulty has a sense of achievement when you succeed.
>>
>>321487120
It's open world in that you can go anywhere you want - it's a non-linear progression. Bait harder kid.

>>321487081
That's fair, they are both open world but obviously to way different degrees. I was just saying that for comparison's sake. Looking at DD from the outside, it has a lot of the same thing Dark Souls has from a back of the box standpoint.

>>
Dark Souls is a metroidvania.
>>
>>321486883
Areas connected to the point where in some areas there is literally only one path to take to get there. It is open world though as it can get. "All roads lead to gran soren" is a favorite comment from the pawns and it is true. It is the 2nd non-settlement town you will reach and the 3rd area period that have a loading screen to enter/leave into and it may as well be the middle of the world.

For most players it where the game truly start and everything before is just plot/tutorial to get you going.

We tried. We really tried hard on this one including the Berserk stuff. In fact, we had the Japanese audio checkbox ticked on the store page right before the pre-purchase went live but had to remove it at the last minute as things didn't pan out as we had hoped. We really can't get into specifics beyond that...sorry.

We understand some fans are disappointed and appreciate the feedback, and we're truly sorry for not being able to deliver on that front. But we do hope fans can still enjoy the game for what it is. It's still a great game if I may say so after having invested more than 300 hours myself. I personally look forward to exchanging pawns with the community once the game launches.

Content wise, the port team stuffed everything else they possibly can into the base game plus some extra features fans had asked for. That includes new Achievements for high level players (most are post game & BBI-related), customizable item hot keys, graphics and performance enhancements, and other nice-to-have nips and tucks that greatly improves the overall Dragon's Dogma experience.

People have the time to extract the assets from the console versions.
Porting it would be easy because the MT framework is native to the PC.
Japanese VA is far more likely than Guts. It is under 100Mb packed, easily distributed, and just drag and drop to activate.
>>
>>321487836
I mean, most monsters have a few different points to go for when you're climbing, and only some of the classes even rely on that strategy. As any ranged class or a Mystic Knight, most fights are pretty fun and varied as they go.
>>
>>321488082
More than half the classes are "hybrids" which are just rehashed versions of other classes

2 hand (warriors) lose out on using 3 active skills for some retarded reason. If you can accept that then go for it.

Mages aren't require but that like saying Pokemon centers aren't required either if you buy enough potions. The extra dps is rarely worth the lost of a healer, even if you are pro as fuck your pawns will still get hurt.
>>
>>321488305
>Is shield and sword better than 2-handed?
Fighter (Shield and Sword) is pretty standard, has 1 great skill and all the others are good.
Warrior (2 hander) Is a love-hate thing. You really need to try it for yourself to see if it rings your bell
Mystic Knight (Shield and Mace OR Sword) is pretty cool, more centered around magick attacks that pure physical ones. Most people agree this is one of the best classes in the game.

Dragon Dogma is one of the few games where you will really suffer if you don't use items. Note if you give your pawns items they will use them as well and may even use them on you.

Also moldy carrots are worth more than their fresh counterparts though you don't want them to rot. You can buy carrots in the first town and after a few days (may it be legit or by inn) you can sell them back for a profit.

As min/max as it sounds, if you're going to "build" a character, either go Fighter until level 10 then Assassin until 100, or go Mage until 10 then Sorcerer til 100. No stats except damage are really relevant.

I thought DD had some similarities with Dark Souls without necessarily having the same combat. Both are Japanese games depiction a western style medieval fantasy world. Both have emphasis on third person action gameplay and are reasonably difficult (I won't bother arguing which is more difficult). Both games also featured rather unusual always online features.

These are kind of vague comparisons, but I think the games are really similar in spirit despite the fact that they feel very different while playing.
>>
>>321489762
if you only do main quests, which you totally can, you'd miss out on maybe 80% of the content, and finish it in 40hours, maybe less

if you do all sidequests, 100 hours easily, though most sidequest are literal "bring me 40 rabit tails" kinda bullshit.

In all honesty, sidequests are just an excuse for you play more of the game, and kill stuff, which is the best part of the game. If you like the combat, you'll replay this so many times it's not even funny.

If your character is small enough they can enter the holes that normally goblins are only allow in.

Your character weight effect their carrying cap but also how much stamina they have (bigger = more but lower regen, where smaller is vice versa) and other things such as if they can be picked up by harpies. Hell even how tall your character is can decide if your lantern goes out when you step into water.

In the first town right from the building you leave from after the dragon fight you can hop over a cliff to see a lighthouse-like area with a few chests. There is a shit ton of other hidden places like that in the world and even in the towns. Search around, exploring is encouraged.

Wolves hunt in packs arisen.
>>
>>321491078
>and the combat was incredibly tedious and consisted mostly off just mashing literally one button

That's your fault. You have a strong attack, a fast attack, and room for 3-6 abilities. If you played by hitting one button you're bad.

You might be able to get away with it against easier enemies, but it won't do you much good later on. Especially considering how you need to build you pawn as much as you need to build your main character.

No, then yes. Once you can beat the game, you have to muscle through some everfall stuff to wrangle a little gear, then a couple painful Ur-Dragon fights to get your stuff to a good enough spot that you can solo the fight in reasonable time which is especially easy as an assassin with some periapts from fornival and the augments that reward you being along and it being nighttime, then with Veteran's Periapts, you can get something like 450k experience per fight - and they go really fast.

i brought multiple characters up to 200. pretty sure i know what i'm doing against anything and the most effective way to deal with "hard" shit is spam literally one ability. on archers you spam your fold arrow ability with explosive arrows and spam curatives. on mages you just enchant your staff with whatever enemy is weak to what and do your lame ass semen shot staff charge.

>Especially considering how you need to build you pawn as much as you need to build your main character.
well, this is factually wrong. you can even get skills that give you boosts to being solo and are often times better than having a pawn with you

i didn't even use pawns in the game when it became evident they were just useless
>>
>>321485457
Kill it on the spot by burning it and dish out damage as fast as you can. I actually preferred going to the tower because there were items there worth getting.

Some of the best steaks I've cooked at home were a little on the old side. Not rancid, just... old. Maybe frozen for a while, then thawed and left in the fridge for a day or two. They're really tender.
>>
>>321486883

Its a big area, but the biggest problem is that its not dynamic at all, you will find the same enemies in the same spots everytime. The game lacks a good fast travel system so this will become apparent. The post game gives you more giant monsters to fight, but everything will mostly be in the same place but with a upgraded version of it.

However Dark Arisin fixed the fast travel part by giving more port crystals, so this won't be a problem if you are smart with them.

Overall the overworld isn't that important, you will learn where the big monsters lurk, place a port crystal in the most opportune area's, then just warp around killing all the bosses for grinding.

The gameplay is what really holds this game together.
>>
>>321491598
Usually Thief, but there doesn't really seem to be a lot of thiefy stuff to do. Plus, I've seen some of the warrior/mage webms and they look really cool.
>>
>>321491630
>i didn't even use pawns in the game when it became evident they were just useless

There was also a time when solo assassin was overpowered. That would certainly make pawns useless.
>>
>>321491869
You can pickpocket in the game, actually. Pickpocket NPC's and pawns on the road. It doesn't feel thief-like though.
>>
>>321492053

>Wanting to make an honest woman out of a whore

>>
>>321487402

>>
>>321486883
it's a very small world that tricks you into thinking it's bigger than it actually is. it does this by making no fast travel available right away, adding areas that can only be accessed one way which often times means back tracking because you didn't take the designated path. on top of that when you look at your map it's a huge fucking lie. they intentionally made it seem like there was more things to explore. you'll see.

you guys need to understand with dd that it's not a bad game, it just has a lot of flaws that are grossly overlooked here because most of these faggots would be happy if dd consisted of nothing more than a loli maker.

Assassin can be an assassin...As least as much as possible when it come to fighting giant monsters.

You want wait for that perfect moment where the enemy is burning alive and down to jump and stab it in the weak spot. It would be amazing if you can have borderline shadow of the colossus weak spots that can cause the giant monsters to bleed out but that would make the game less fun as everything will die too quickly.
>>
>>321492621
For an advanced class assassin is just mediocre. You can counter and stab really hard but it's just not that interesting.

Yes but note Mage is just a healer, you will want to get to the main city (which hopefully you will be level 10 by then) and change into a Sorcerer asap. Because the game use stamina and not mana you can start out at any class and be ok. Not like the first 10 levels will effect you much anyway.

Its specialized, they are powerful if the situations are right. For examples, magic archers are amazing in BBI because shit like richochet shot will do a massive amount of damage in the small area's. However your might find yourself in a open area with fire shots against a enemy who highly resists fire. So then you have to rely on your daggerss.

Far as I can remember, pawns just aimlessly wander about the land. They have a tendency to visit the site of the guild frequently (for later obvious reasons), but otherwise they mill about.

I'm bored so I am going to answer these for the fun of it.

>so it's like souls game?
As much as Sonic 3 & Knuckles is a platformer just like Super Mario World. It is a live action RPG but a totally different game.

>open world souls game?
There is a world where you can go literally anywhere you want even if it means dying to an overpowered enemy. So yea? Not as casual as Dark Souls (without the master key and ignoring the graveyard) as there isn't locked doors to block you. You are in the center of the world once you reach the main town which is like the 4th main quest and when the game truly starts.

>the combat is like souls game?
It is a live action RPG but I personally see it being much more faster pace and less punishing if playing on normal but much more punishing if playing on hard (at least until the money pouring in allow you to buy equipment). First hour or so in on hard mode the goblins can one hit kill you if you aren't careful. Dark Souls combat training won't help much as dodging isn't exactly a press of a button, you will actually have to dodge shit by moving. Depending on the class and skill you may get a button press dodge though. Not sure how good the i-frames are on them as I like to play Dragon Dogma like a real adventure game. I think rolling knights and mages are just silly personally and I am glad it isn't a main feature.

I think that has a bit to do with the online system. If you want to summon, you need to go human and then you open yourself up to invasions. If you spawned next to the boss, that wouldn't really happen as much. But it does become pretty annoying in some places. I liked Sanctuary Guardian because you could just go right back when you died

Mystic knight is basically a paladin so you'll want to know how to fight in melee and with a shield so start off as a fighter. Highest attack and HP out of the 3 starter classes for the first 10 levels.

No shit. I want to know if I can spend my cash on other shit and pirate this game or not.

Doesn't even matter, the 10 levels of stats won't make much of a difference. Personally I would go as a fighter so I would have a sword and shield ready and the advancement won't screw me over.

Kinda annoying to make a mage into a sorcerer for example as a mage use staffs where sorcerers use archistaves which the game see as a totally different weapon.
