I'm a 24 yo single male and I feel guilty that my parents bought me a ps4 for Christmas. i feel like a 15 year old asking for it and they probably think I'm some autist manchild. they're so nice about it too, asking me questions, watching me play battlefront. I love it and am v excited but at the same time I felt so sad.

anyone else feel this way? or general embarassment of being an older gamer?
>>
Jesus Christ that's pathetic.

Depends, do you have a job?
Are your parents well off? Still working maybe?

Also playing Battlefront is basically a confirmation of you being an autist manchild.
So enjoy this wake-up call if the above questions were answered with No.

I just turned 24 and got an Xbox One from my dad and sister for Christmas, already own a PS4 and Wii U.

I don't feel any shame OP, and I got my Xbone just to play Halo 5 and MCC. So no, don't feel ashamed. Just go out and get Bloodborne ASAP if you haven't got it already.

>mfw Halo 5 is actually pretty fucking awesome
>>
Did you get them something?
>>
You're not old, you're just autistic for asking your parents for a video game system for Christmas.

The reason they ask you so many questions and are so nice about it is because they think "winning" at a few video games is the best they can expect from you.
>>
It sounds like you are an autist. Why, as a grown adult, would you ask for a $400 present? I'm 26 and still a hardcore game but I don't ask for that shit for Christmas.

I guess you may as well enjoy it.
>>
Live your fucking life how you want and stop being a fat insecure nerd. You're gonna be old as fuck one day and wish you spent more time being happy.
>>
>>321465156
You should feel shame, you sound like a real failure as a person with some relatively well off parents.

Nobody cares about your opinion of Halo, consoledipshit.
>>
>>321465094
I do have a job/live on my own, and I wouldn't call them well off, but would consider it "stable". not sure if this makes it better or worse.

Sounds like you have some loving parents.

Perhaps you're dissatisfied with the direction your life is going? Have you ever thought "this(videogames) is fun, but what exactly am I doing?", or just had a lingering "empty" feeling?

If so, could you be feeling there's something that needs doing which you've been neglecting?

>>

you do realise a lot of parents buy gift for their child because they want to give you something they think you'll like.
my parents are poor as fuck, but they still give me little things like tea and stuff.
and i'm poor too, so i just gave them a card and a fancy biscuit box, but it's important to let people you love know you do.

>>321464601
My parents haven't bought me anything since I was in high school.

That said, it's not a big deal.

It IS kind of weird that you explicitly ASKED YOUR PARENTS FOR A GAME CONSOLE AT THE AGE OF 24 though.
>>
I'm a 24 year old independent medical school student with a decent job and no debt, and my parents care far more about my 19 year old sister just because she was dumb enough to have 2 kids. I bet they do this because if they buy you adult items you show disinterest or you are outwardly angry. Just get them what you want to get them. If they try to get inconsiderate and say that you are shoving money in their face, say that as a family member you just want the best for them, and that they would have done the same if they were in your position. Then offer for them to give it back and you give them something in their price range.
They'll either just accept the gift as a normal person would or they'll get pissy. If they do, its not the gift, they are just envious of where you are but don't say it. just keep it in the back of your mind for later.

I moved out when I was 19. Just get a shitty apartment with a roommate.
>>
>>321471962
Roommates, wageslaves that get promoted, dorms. More times than not, tons of roommates.

I just turned 21 and my parents bought me KH:DDD and XBC for the N3DS they got me on my birthday, plus a new memory card for my Vita.

Sure, its kinda strange, but I did my research on both consoles and games before asking for them, plus I bought the Vita with the money I get from the state to pay for college.

I don't do irresponsible shit and they know I have a few acquaintances and do well in my studies, so its not so bad. We don't argue that much **ever since I asked to be put on Lexapro** and generally get along, other than the "you're lazy and don't care about anything" argument every few months.

>>

You really should not come to /v/ to try and feel better about yourself. If you're feeling bad for being financially dependant on them, get a job. Cab't speak on how they feel about you but I can tell you are pretty insecure. Social anxiety maybe?

Are conservatives ever not retarded. It's your body anon, you did nothing wrong.
>>
>>321468034
The squeaky wheel gets the gross anon. Don't be too bitter about it. I don't know your situation but maybe you should talk to your parents.
>>
>>321468034
yeah, you sound like a real winner
>>
>>321464601

Are you grateful? As long as you're not being a pissant about it, you're fine.

Your parents love you and probably wanted to get you something nice. If you're 24 and not living at home or even just employed and not in school, they have way mire disposable income now that you aren't as dependant anymore.

Be graceful and grateful about the gift and give them the satisfaction of you being happy. Give them something nice in return like a hand-mixer or a really cheap tablet.
>>
Is it really so bad that a lot of us 20, 25, 30+ still live with our parents as long as we help them out and shit and aren't always lazy/assholes?
Is it that we aren't fueling that american economy enough by not owning a house we don't need for a new family we don't need with a job that makes us miserable to be able to afford all that shit?
>>
>>321464601

Bugging your parents for video games at the age of 24? Yeah, that is totally cool and awesome.
>>
They bought you that because they love you. They want you to enjoy it.

You have a job and you are not going to prison, doing drugs, have 15 kids with some hillybilly slut or shit like that. You didn't do anything wrong.

Show them that you appreciated it. Take them out in the next weeks. Dinner, theater, whatever they like. Tell them that you are glad that you have caring parents. This will matter more to them than anything else. I know this because I'm a mother.

Enjoy what makes you happy, life really is too short. Don't let anybody tell you different.

It's nothing to be ashamed of as long as you act more like a roommate. Housing costs are so ridiculous nowadays that it's almost a necessity.

That said, get some income and get a house/apartment with a friend if you're really ashamed.

i think you feel depressed because you are single at 24

i've been with my partner for last 5 years, playing vidya every day

cushy job, apartment, savings

you can play vidya at any age bro, thats not why you are embarassed
>>
>>321474420
>you can play vidya at any age bro,
That's ultimately the case. A lit if ducks in here would have you believe otherwise but really if you have any life experiencev at all then you know this
>>
The thing about living in a capitalist society is that the baby-boomers' success was a fluke but it isn't a distant enough memory for us to realize that.
>>
Dude you should fucking TREASURE your parents with every bit of your being. I've never seen my dad and my mother's a terrible person. I would kill for parents that love me, even just one, especially ones that would love me as much as yours love you.

People are growing up slower nowadays. A lot of people your age live with their parents now, OP.

http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/11/yes-20-somethings-are-taking-longer-to-grow-up-but-why/265750/

Don't feel too bad.
>>
>>321476773
Yeah I can sort of agree with this. I don't feel "adult" and people never fully see me as it and I'm 29.
>>
>>321476101
This... Imy best friends mom passed away recently..It was so sudden and hit me with the thought that my parents could be gone too. So pls anons I know it's obvious just say hello to them once in while
>>
>>321477106

No one ever "feels" adult.
>>
>>321477345
Maybe but still doesn't stop other people's perceptions. Because I look different, dress different, and like different things. etc. Kind of cliche but that's a real feeling I get sometimes.
>>
>>321464601
Really cause I'm 25 and my parents bought me a 40in 1080p tv for gaming/films. No fucks given
>>
>>321477540

That's just your imagined perception of their perception.

>Got a desk, a big bag of kindling and a wicker basket for carrying logs to the fire from the wood storage.

We played keeptalkingandnobodyexplodes for a while, ate a nice dinner and watched some films together.

It's 3:30am and despite everyone else having staggered to bed hours ago I'm still fairly sober despite demolishing plenty of booze.
