the way I see it there are 3 ways to make transformations work.

Smash 5 roster is likely going to be like every previous Smash roster, and based heavily on whatever games released in the last five or so years. We really don't have enough information at the moment to begin speculating because the games it will be based on aren't even out yet, or possibly not even in development.
The only character that's really a sure thing right now is Inkling. We'll probably also get a new Pokemon that doesn't exist right now, and another random retro character that practically exists to be hard to predict.

A dumb decision for a FF rep than. Cloud is the most irrelevant character to anything regarding Nintendo. He's like the unofficial PS mascot and the game that represented the utter humiliation as Square went to greener pasture after the SNES.
If anything, they should have chosen Chrono, Cecil, the main SoM character, Onion Knight, or Black Mage. At least those characters represented Square more fully in regards to being in a Smash game for Nintendo.
