That entirely depends on the mode. Novice is pretty pathetic but even Normal Original gives you a run for you your money on the later stages by basically turning into a Psikyo shmup.
If you don't get to the TLB with an adequate stock of lives and bombs you're going to get fucked up on that final pattern.1.5 is fucking insane all around.

Mine came with a hayabusa stick, which (from what I've read at least) is designed to emulate a JLF. I agree, they feel like shit regardless of what kind of game you're playing. I've used ls-32s at arcades and they felt just about right, so I'm probably going to go with that. I'd be interested in seeing if I like the LS-56 but I don't want to jump straight to it without having tested it before.

If you tried and thought the LS-32 was "just about right" then that's all you pretty much need. I ended up switching LS-32 to LS-56 because after playing for awhile I found myself saying "Man I wish this was a bit tighter and had a bit less deadzone." I prefer LS-32 for fighting games though.
I've even tried the LS-58 which is basically with the LS-56 with a MUCH MUCH lighter spring. Stay away from that. It's way too sensitive/light
