Unlike past games you can access all the same classes regardless of gender. Female is probably better for gameplay since it'll net you two avatar kids since males determine children this time around. In FE12 male is better because of pirate/berserker and in FE13 female is better because of the Chrom support and galeforce.

MGS1 was a very rare occurrence that happened nearly 20 years ago. The rest of the MGS games were handled by a different team. That is not going to happen with Fates.
