The ability to have fun with it isn't reliant on the active playerbase, which has been in flux ever since the 2.0 update hit and we've seen less and less meaningful content. Last content update is in January for it.

Mario Maker also didn't have to lock over 60% of it's content on disc to dole out over time to keep it active.

I play splatoon at least once a week. Its gets boring after about an hour but the fun never really goes away, I always want to come back and crank out a few matches because it's just inherently fun.
its the perfect amount of replay value imo. Not tryhard enough to make you into an FPS autist, but enough content to keep you entertained every time you decide to play.

I find Splatoon fun even though I suck at shooters. I use carbon roller and play zones/turf/rainmaker. Mario Maker is also fun though I play more than I create.

I've put over 400 hours into Splatoon and so have hundreds, maybe thousands of others.
It's a fun game. You should buy it and save up for Mario Maker since Splatoon is reliant on the community and the community is about to surge in number after Christmas.

SMM is just a level creator. You literally create levels with half the shit you find on Mario games and mindlessly play other people's level. It should have a shit ton more of features, like creating your own course of levels (aka "worlds") and other interesting things that make you feel you are going somewhere.

I got bored of it after 3 weeks after it came out
I mean, it's fun at first, you splat the living shit out of people, get new clothes/weapons, beat the story mode
I played it every day for 3 weeks straight, but after that it became kinda dull for me
At the time it lacked content, but now I see they added stages, but Im not coming back, Im done with the game
Now with Super Mario Maker, Ive been playing the shit out of it over the last 2 months, theres so much you can do, the possibilities are endless
The only thing wrong with the game is that most of the community levels are retarded
The thing with Splatoon is that it gets dull very fast, especially once you unlock everything
Each game has his flaws, don't decide by what /v/ says
Go on youtube and search up gameplay of each game today, and tomorrow YOU decide which game appeals most to you.
Either way, they're both good games.
