Download and Play the free trial (not the one that comes with the game, that is just the "Full Game + 30 Days" pack), and try it out.
Every class is decent, but not every player is decent.
Tanking appears to be "hard" for first timers but after a while it will be easier to play than damage dealers and healers (well, the same can be said about all classes, but just don't be scared), and you have the bonus for being the Adventurer in Need (more EXP and money from dungeon roulette, for example).
You can change pretty much any choice you make in the game, except your starting city (based on your class, will affect the first 15 levels of story quests) and your pointless character description (like your birthday and shit), so don't worry about anything. Try out everything and find what you enjoy most.
Ul'dah is a shitty city full of shitty peopleexcept for Hildibrand and his sexy family, they are cool, avoid it like the plague.
Stats differences on races and deities are completely pointless, just choose what looks/sounds cool to you.

I wish I could get used to controllers. I don't have a "cool kids club" mouse and I can't into button combinations to access multiple hotbars, so I end up using 1 to 5 and clicking on the rest of my hotbar. It feels horrible and not comfy at all.
If this game had more macro commands (like an useful wait command and "If"-based commands), I would put most of my combo skills in one or two slots (using that "swap action" command). I miss Ragnarok's battle mode, the whole keyboard becomes your hotbars with a simple click, so you can easily change between "battle buttons" and "menu shortcuts" layouts without touching the shortcut configurations.

I recommend /vg/'s Golden Ratio <ZR> on Ultros, it's filled to the brim with new players, new 60s, old 60s, and the likes, so you'll have lots of people to help with stuff. It can be a bit circlejerky once you get into the hardcore content, but just try to be social and you'll be fine.

Depends. Most raid groups go for the WAR + DRK combo or dual Warriors. However PLD should get you through most content if you're not bothered by not doing things in the most optimal way. Anyway, they'll balance things out eventually, warrior is crazy strong right now and even DRK barely has a reason to exist.
The problem with paladins currently is that they lack raid utility which both DRK and WAR bring on the table and their strength as a tank (heavy on-demand damage mitigation) is currently not needed as all the bosses mostly do fluff damage and big tank busters aren't something you need to bother with that much in the current raid tier.

I for one like the bowmage Bard a lot more than the original one, but yes, they're less mobile now (still not as stiff as casters because your cast times are only 60% of your GCD).
Heavensward itself, the launch, was rather fine, but the endgame has been lackluster with huge delays and experiments that went nowhere. It's the same, except less and worse. Good job Yoshifraud.

Most fun to play dps, highest damage output, great sustain in hp and tp, synergy with scholar and you get to be on the A4S leaderboards.

anything that has to do with story content and casual raids is top notch and a good amount of job abilities added some needed variety and utility to every job as well, but the overall issue people have with heavensward overall is that they cut back on content updates to add "risky" content on the side like diadem and verminion but all of their risks so far have amounted to boring shit, lack of structure and direction, or just straight up recycling content from 2.0

Scholar isn't all that difficult. You assign mitigation towards mechanics, optimize your cooldowns to minimize your time outside of cleric stance and communicate with your WHM when he needs help.
I find Black Mage and Machinist to require far more Encounter Knowledge.
The amount of optimization that can go into a Machinists rotation on a fight to fight basis is crazy and they are the most reliant on latency or fast input while also being very punishing towards mistakes like fat fingering a cooldown or using abilities at the wrong time.

Monk for punching, Dragoon for stabbing and Ninja for edgelording. They're all fairly easy to get a hang of on a basic level. Dragoon is the closest to hitting 12345 over and over of them, but there is a buff you have to keep track of. Monk is same as DRG but more positionals and even more focus on buff management. Don't have too much experience with NIN but they lack positionals for the most part and their quirk is ninjutsu (hit symbol abilities to create abilities with different effects).
In terms of personal DPS powerlevel MNK > DRG > NIN

It depends on the patch really. When new stuff comes out there are usually like 50+ people doing new content and helping others with it.
When content gets stale, there usually still people on that will help with roulletes, leveling, crafting, etc. Just a bit harder to do stuff like Thorden EX (because everyone hammered that shit hard in the first few weeks and got their stuff).
Other wise FC chat ranges any where from decent (talking about viday, the game, anime, other nerd shit) to something full meme but thats usually only in short bursts. Chat is almost always active even during dead times of the day. The mumble server has people in it during peak hours of the day that will do other vidya and stuff as well.
It can be kinda circle-jerky since we have a lot of core members that have been playing since 2.0 but only a small portion of those people are the megajerk that don't usually help or talk with others.

If you want easy, PLD is the most braindead tank but its also boring. WAR is better overall, does good dps with easy combos, and generates a ton of agro.
As healer, I used to say just go SCH its way better but WHM got some huge buffs (and SCH fairy minor nerf) and both are really good endgame. SCH is a bit harder to play but is more forgiving. A WHM can do huge AOE damage but will blow through MP like a bitch.
I'd suggest WAR for tank and SCH for healer. Since leveling SCH will give you a summoner at 60 as well in case you want to dps eventually.
