Has anyone actually gotten anything stolen from the Steam account switching?

Check your bank and PayPal accts, and post here if you've actually gotten robbed.
>>
No.
Transactions were disabled, you couldn't see any info beside emails.
This is some freaky shit anyway
>>
>>321438125
I'll agree it's freaky, but people acting like anything will happen are just silly.
>>
No because I'm not a fucking idiot that links my credit card or bank account info to an online ANYTHING. If I want something on Steam I buy a $10, $20, or $50 Steam gift card, load up my account with the money and buy it that way.

If you put your information online it is only a matter of time before someone else has it.
>>
I cancelled my card.

Now I need to go through and switch all the autopayments.

Steam keeps changing languages with every refresh.
My account history is of some random guy.
I checked all my accounts and emails, and nothing bad has been reported.
So I'm good.

Watching my email like a hawk, so far so good. My bank account is impervious to shit like this though, I never saved my payment info.

Also, this serves a great practical lesson to not save your CC info anywhere where it isn't 110% necessary, and NEVER set up a direct money hose from your CC/bank account to a service, no matter how reliable it seems. Some of you laughed at my tinfoilery before, but who's laughing now?
>>
Can any of you post any actual proof? None of you have posted anything that doesn't seem like bullshit.

As long as the steam info you have is fake (address, phone, name) you fine, because they just they would just get taken to your account, and hit edit and they see info, that way it gets by steamguard.

there will be some long-term repercussions for Valve but it seems like the actual damage to users will be minimal (some leaked emails). key word "SEEMS", we don't really know yet and probably won't for another day or so. there are anonymous, probably-bs reports of stolen funds / false charges being made, more worrying is the possibility of account trashing (deleting/unsubbing all past purchases and marketplace items, steam wallet funds, etc.).

i'm just a bit pissed i can't play tf2.

I want Steam to make it up for this shit in some other way.

People are getting their personal data exposed and they can sue Valve. Not only that but thousands of people will never buy anything from Steam again with credit cards. I wonder what Valve will do.

Maybe they could give $5 to everyone, but damn it, Steam has so many people that they'd go bankrupt. Maybe give $5 to people that made a purchase in the last 6 months. That seems fine. But even then Steam would lose massive amounts of money.

Another possibility is if they make a deal with the publisher of a popular game and make the game f2p.

I'm not sure what's your point here. But, actually, I'm not sure why you feel the need to be so argumentative as well.

I got my money stolen but i dont think it has to do with steam because it says the transaction happened yesterday

sent a claim anyway
>>
>>321448243

Yeah, because I live my entire life without any form of credit. I make that much bank and I have that much time to go out and withdraw it every time I make a purchase.

For the record, I got all my money back within an hour after they called me.

All you've proven is that you're a scared, giant manchild who spends his parents' money by going into a fucking store to purchase steam cards.

>>321449109
(I am not your lawyer. This is not legal advice.) Depends. Has your data been exposed? Can you prove it? What happened as a result of that to your actual (not theoretical) detriment?

There are scenarios in which that could be very dangerous: maybe if some gamer's part of a group - any group, really - frequently targeted by crazies; said crazies might now have their real name and address.

Someone here raised concerns they were being blackmailed about pretending to be anime girls on Steam... I don't know why Steam's their platform for that, exactly, but they're hurting no-one... blackmail is actually a pretty serious crime.

A company in this jurisdiction could potentially be fined by the Information Commissioner for something like this in the country in which I live. Stuff like that is statutory and cannot be arbitrated (not that the arbitration clause is valid here either). I'm not familiar with US law regarding that kind of thing, however.
