Isolated starts in a peninsula, on an island, or the enemy is cornered in a hole are the best if you have early game units

Nope, it was on emperor difficulty and I was going wide. I did get pyramids, and I was thinking of getting masoleum to help assuage my gold loss from going warmonger early. I ended up not pulling the trigger on that and overproduced chariot archers. I could have dealt with Austria with 2-3 less of them. Only one of their cities had an archer, and none had walls.

Immortal is pretty great. If you have trouble, try Harun al-Rashid. Shit tons of gold + camel archers = no one stands a chance. Deity is really stressful and you don't stand a chance if you aren't aggressive early on because you are developing way too slowly compared to the AI's. But you can still win without playing as a barbaric militaristic dictatorship on Immortal, but obviously, only with the more OP civs

I really like the voice-work (They have proper historians looking up actualy possible dialects for leaders with extinct languages e.g. mongols), music, variety of leaders. I would give it all up for better AI.
Playing Diety and Poland has 6 cities up by turn 35? Meanwhile I'm micromanaging my food so I don't grow too fast with 2 cities, calculating how long it will take my worker to be built and for him to get a luxury up and timing it so I get the citizen at the same time. Of course all nearby city states are protected and accidentally completing one of their quests gets the other civs on your case for "becoming too friendly". Can't go to war because lol20 cities each producing units faster than you and zerging them into your cities.

You should also focus on developing your capital fully before anything else unless there's a new resource in some other city.
Have like 3-4 of your first workers on your capital. You can get a lot of extra workers by stealing them from city states or capturing other civs' settlers early on.
Also, always always always always improve food tiles first. Food is always the most important

one per city sounds about right just for general use although you'll learn how much you need depending on what you want to do later. the most important thing is to link your cities by roads with your workers. you'll also notice when you go into city planner there will be hexes showing benefits like extra food, commerce and science. you can build improvements on those hexes that enhance them like farms, windmills, what ever. just play the game and you'll learn

You should not play civ 5 with other human players. Civ was never meant to be played with any other living beings. Logistically it's too difficult. You have to wait for human players to complete turns, and combat is iffy at best.
Alexander starts on the same continent (Hourglass style, top had 4 civs, bottom had me and Alexander), way across the map from me, at the start of the game. First thing he does is get hostile and declare war.
He won't concede anything in peace negotiations when I have him dead to rights. He just offers one of his multiple luxuries, and peace. Not even budging for 20 gold.

I really forget how the calculations work but the city connection gold won't always break even with the road maintenance cost.
If you want an AI to peace out, just pillage their tiles. The computer values land more than it should.
I pretty much conquered the 2 major capitals next to my city but there are 3 more states that I still havent discovered. I'm playing a 6 player game (5 CPUs) and built boats to check around the map. I rotated in circles all over the place trying to find the 3 other states but there are invisible walls everywhere i go in the water.

I do it late game when I have a ton of cities and am too lazy to keep track of them all. They mostly build roads (even when I don't need roads) or trading posts. Just keep an eye on them and check the boxes in the menu so they don't build over shit already there.

i find just obliterating their offensive and stepping one tile into their territory will scare most civs. if not, one salvo of artillery on a city is usually enough for them to offer you that city

You get deep water boats after astronomy, they're all on another continent probably.
Also note food = science in civ5, which is important for every type of win. So, in important cities, raise the pop as far as you can while minding happiness, and in conquered cites, replace all farms with trading posts. You want low pop in cities that aren't crucial, because pop leads to unhappiness.I'll hang around the thread to answer any civ 5 questions if anyone cares.

If you plan on playing a pretty wide game, liberty can work well enough. It's still probably better to take Tradition in most cases. I do know of a niche build involving the mayans and infinite city spam that likes liberty.
