Wait a minute, GTA V was 35,99€ since the start of the sale. Does that mean that Today's Highlighted Deals means nothing, just front page advertising?

Yes. It's because of the refund system. Valve wanted to avoid refund waves each time a game goes on special, so they just went all out. Kind of boring, but oh well.

Steam sales now require the game to be at it's lowest sale price during the entire sale, instead of having daily sales.
It was announced early november.
In theory it's better for customers... As long as the companies don't put put prices as low as before since they aren't daily anymore.

Sites like that show you exactly what games are discounted. You are also shown if there was previously a better price for that game. As it turns out: almost all games are as cheap as always. Some are not, but not "more and more" like people tend to claim.

That's pretty stupid from Valve's perspective though. The daily deals and flash sales caused impulse buys. The trigger is completely gone now. In addition no publisher will discount their games for the entire time for the "full" discount, so no -66% GTA5 this year for one day, instead -40% for the entire sale.

Well, I'm not valve, so I can't say why they did that for sure. Probably something about steam refunds.
And neither of us can say for sure if valve really enforced the "full discount" rule. I also severely doubt rockstar would put their cash cow for 66% off on the same year it was released.

It's a second sale by the new rules: maximum discounts from day one. No new daily discounts on big sales, the whole bunch (with some very rare exceptions) goes at maximum discount right away. For some reason. It sure makes sales less exciting day-to-day.

I like it the way it is now. Sure it was fun to look into steam several times every day and holding back until the last day, but the way it is now i can look through the offer at day 1, buy some games i like if the price is right and actually start playing them.
If i picked bad games or i simply don't like something about them i can issue a refund and get my money back within 24h and buy something else.
In the end i end up with games i actually like and i can spend more time on playing them instead of looking at the deals every few hours.
During this sale, i refunded 5 games already. Even if (and thats not proven) those games would have been cheaper in a previous sale, i still would have wasted my money on them. Now i gave them back and picked something else.

There were several occasions when Gaben gave out free games.
The most famous time was probably the "coal-christmas-sale" where you could get literally any game on steam for free if you were lucky (or a scaming russian)
Then there was L4D2 that you could add to your library for free for a couple of hours and one or two other games as well, but all of these were usually not within a bigger sale.

It has the "what it means to be human??" fad going on but the story is fine and completely ignorable if you feel like you don't wanna follow it around. As a puzzle game, a good chunk of the puzzles are just chores you gotta pass through but it does get interesting time to time. I'd say it's worth 10 bucks.

I haven't played it myself but it's an early access game and people on /v/ are sorta salty when it comes down to that. You can always refund it, anyway. If you trying to remove some games from your list I'd say drop Axiom Verge for now. The game was okay and offers a good chunk of exploration but it's not worth 14 bucks.

I try not to praise games too much by using big words, that's why I just said "alright" Gunslinger has an arcadey gameplay, sorta reminds me of rail shooters, and has decent usage of narrative, I still remember the duel sections of the game very clearly even though it's been a long time since I played it so it's just good fun for 8 to 10 hours. As for Grim Dawn, take a look at how often it goes on sale if you are really interested in it. If it goes on sale rather often, you can just wait for now.

I enjoyed the length, but largely because I love the space station/ship setting so much. I have been replaying it on nightmare with AI mod that makes the alien less predictable and random. Goes a lot faster now that I know what to do and is so much more fun when it is not constantly dropping from vents.
