If you stay in a certain light or enemies sight, you'll get frenzied, which will damage you over time, if you let the bar fill up, you're gonna get killled instantly pretty much.

Frenzy's literal effect is nearly identical to bleed from darksouls 1, once the bar is filled you get a massive bleed tick of damage all at once.

The mechanic concerning how the bar is filled is different. You get hit with little shard daggers that cant miss when you are in the range of a monster who can shoot them and has noticed you. Each hit from a shard does a set amount of ticks and each tick does a set amount of damage to your fenzy bar, but the more insight you have the more ticks and more frenzy damage it does.

If theres anything wrong with the mechanic it's that theres really no way to know it exists till you have some random bar filling up, and depending on your setup even if you correctly realize what is happening, and where it's happening from, even if you get out of range, it can still tick and frenzy you anyway.
>>
>>321403783
>>321404102
Why the word 'Frenzy' thoguh?
Why would a status effect called 'Frenzy' kill you instantly?
>>
>>321404809
It doesn't kill you instantly. It does 80% of your max health. They are basically making your blood go berserk, to the point where it's causing you physical harm.
>>
>>321404809
You are being driven insane by what you are seeing till your fucking brain explodes. It doesn't kill you instantly, it just does a lot of damage
>>
>>321404809
Your mind is in a frenzy because it's being forced to acknowledge the eldritch truth, thus your mind is breaking to the point it physically hurts you.

In short, your brain is turning into mush
>>
>>321403783
You're seeing shit and getting knowledge that makes your brain go so haywire you get physically damaged.
It's a large amount of damage and staying in constant sight of whatever is casting the frenzy on you will constantly harm you.

A very important note. Having MORE insight makes you LESS IMMUNE to frenzy.
The less insight you have, the more immune you are to frenzy. This makes sense with the whole meaning behind frenzy in the game.
You have more insight, thus you see more crazy shit and are more prone to freaking the fuck out.

So if you are having trouble with frenzy, use up insight and wear clothes that increase your frenzy resistance. I found that at a certain point it takes a very long time for the bar to fill up and you can easily get through places like nightmare of mensis.

I really don't want to be a negative Nancy here, but that's wrong on a few levels.

You also can't know what any of the status effects do until you are actually affected by them in any other Souls games

The Winter Lanterns are not the only enemies that can cause frenzy (ghosts in chalices, nightmare pigs).
The Frenzy itself does not deal "frenzy damage", the attack does. Each spear deals a specific amount of regular damage while also inflicting frenzy. The bar fills like any other status bar, except that with Frenzy the effect is applied over a period of time meaning that you don't just get inflicted with a specific amount of Frenzy each hit instantaneously, like with the poisons, but rather that amount is applied over time

The Winter Lanterns and the Brain of Mensis also don't necessarily need to "see" you, that is the general mechanic of these enemies though.
As long as they are lighting up, the Winter Lantern might not even turn to you or aggro, but still build frenzy once it lights up and you are in line of sight of the spears

Sorry to sound like an ass
>>
>>321405710
No it's cool if that's actually how they work. I only know from the basic tooling around I did trying to figure out how to get past it. I'm almost positive insight effects it but maybe I was just confirmation biasing it up.
>>
>>321405934
Insight decreases your Frenzy resistance. Quite literally too. If you spend or increase Insight you can see the Frenzy resistance increasing/decreasing

Otherwise it just works like any other resistance, which is why the +200 Frenzy resist rune in the Forbidden Woods is really good for the Nightmare as it directly increases your Frenzy bar, taking longer to fill

The best way to avoid frenzy damage is invulnerability states from backstab/ripostes. You can easily parry the Winter Lanterns and start a riposte as soon as the Frenzy bar fills. While you're doing the animation, the frenzy will pop and you take no damage
>>
These things are legitimately bad game design and I'd like to see someone try to argue with that
Every other enemy in Bloodborne can hypothetically be defeated the very first time you meet them if you're cautious and play well
The first time I fought it I tried sneaking up on it and didn't even realize what the status effect was and then died before I even got near it
Eventually I realized the best course of action was just to rush it like a madman (which is completely opposite of how you'd handle any other enemy), which stopped working once I got to the tougher ones in nightmare of mensis. Eventually I realized the best course of action was to not even fight them, just sneak by them. That's bullshit.
That is literally artificial difficulty on the level of the bullshit DS2 pulls with enemies that bust through doors and insta kill you because LOL PREPARE TO DIE

What even is frenzy? Like, what does it represent?

The only way I can rationalize it is beign some sort of 'sanity' effect, where yo're forced into confronting the truth before you and your brain basically has an aneurysm. Or your eyes on the inside basically get stabbed.

No wonder I kept getting slaughter on the one bridge with three of these fuckers. I had like 60 insight and my frenzy meter filled up in like 5 seconds. I finally just stacked frenzy resistance with my armor and runes and bum rushed the fucker while chugging sedatives. Yeah, I'm not very good at the game. I never could get the whole visceral attack thing down.

>>
>>321408597
I barely use the visceral attack as well, fucking Ludwig holy blade and learning the enemies pattern was more than enough. The game is really not so hard, just punishing. But same goes for all Souls games.
>>
>>321406523

You CAN sneak up on them. The frenzy buildup only happens if they detect you and start glowing while you're within their line of sight.
>>
>>321409490
Why does it continue to build after they are dead, though?
>>
>>321409792

As soon as you get "tagged" once by their glow, it keeps building even after leaving their line of sight or killing them. This is in contrast to how the Brain of Mensis works, where the frenzy wears off once you hide from it. I guess whatever the Lanterns make you see is too terrible to just wear off without sedatives.
>>
>>321409792
I think Frenzy works like madness. You see these horrible, otherwordly beasts that are beyond human comprehension and it starts to fuck with you. Great Ones are obviously inspired by Lovecraft, so it wouldn't surprise me if Frenzy is meant to represent the struggle to process what it is you're seeing.

Even looking at the corpse is enough to set you off. It fits in nicely with the theme of knowing too much and insight. So many people don't have eyes because they probably started to see shit like the amygdala.
>>
>>321410156
What would confuse me then is that the guys outside Vicar have logs that inflict frenzy as well once your insight is high enough.

Unless that log/cross is something other than a log or cross, I'm not sure why they have that affect
>>
>>321403783
seeing as the whole game is a lovecraft wankfest, they tried to bring the "simply seeing something makes you go insane" shit into it.

It works like Demon's Souls instead of Dark Souls 2. Nearly every boss in the game excluding the worst ones have a shortcut that leads right to them.

Before going into a boss room (which you probably can't really tell unless you're reading player messages), you might want to try finding that shortcut.

There's no checkpoint before Cleric Beast, but there is a shortcut through the house next to the bridge that goes right to the lamp outside of Gilbert's house.
>>
>>321412864
Stop whining, you are a good backup phys/thrust wep for Pure str/vit/end builds, most weps are blunt and don't work well against specific enemies

>>
>>321412906
Fuck those PSN password reset e-mails. Takes like an hour. They must have the slowest robot in the world.

>>321412910
It was a strange decision not to have any mist/fog doors the first time through in this game. A lot of the boss arenas are very clearly boss arenas, but I don't know why they decided not to indicate the point of no return better.

>>321412864
You are not Chaikage. Give me Chaikage.
>>
>>321412593
Literally padding. I don't know why they still refuse to put checkpoint before the bosses. When people die to a boss they'll just dash through enemies to fight that boss again. It's an archaic game design that serves no purpose but to waste your time.
>>
>>321413103
Well they did in Dark Souls 2 for the most part.
>>
>>321413103
1 word, shortcuts.

>>
So if Arcane is Magic, does that make Bloodtinge Faith?
>>
>>321413296
Not really. Frigid Outskirts is the worst area in the series.

>>321413356
I know about shortcuts, but even with shortcuts -save for few- you still have to run through a few enemies and waste a couple of minutes until you reach the boss. It feels like a chore. They should have just placed the bonfire next to the boss area instead.
Chalice dungeons are better in this aspect though.
>>
>>321413493
I guess, but Arcane gets the healing item, and all of the utility spells.

If Bloodtinge made your vials heal more, then it might be a bit like faith.

>>321413581
I don't mind doing parts of the level again, but I do hate the designs that just make you run past a bunch of shit to try to get to the boss. Or wait for an elevator. Fuck waiting for elevators.

Was there a single boss in Bloodborne that actually made you go through parts of the level again if you failed? Shadows of Yharnam maybe?

The run-up to Laurence was infuriating though.
>>
>>321413493
Probably, since the church uses blood for their ritual and shit.

>>321413758
>Was there a single boss in Bloodborne that actually
Bloodborne has a few but it's a clear improvement over the souls games. Hopefully they are even better in DaS3.
>>
>>321413961
Not really, it's the same thing as DaS2 except with shortcuts instead of bonfires.

I'd prefer DeS/DaS where there are some shortcuts, but a lot of the times you still have to go through parts of the level in order to get to the boss again.

Something like 5-2.

This one time, this guy invaded me, and then we swung our swords at each other and hit each other constantly because the shit netcode meant that neither of us could actually dodge. So then I remembered that I had a bloodtinge build and ran away and shot him to death with arrows. ALL the souls games needed work in their covenants, they basically do nothing, especially in BB. Why not have hunters appear randomly if you're in HoH, make 'em like in the dlc or the bloody crow hard, and have you locate and backstabber to "assasinate" them. Make the executioners like the blades of the darkmoon.
>>
>>321419141
Even if you don't parry him and you have the axe, you can just charge R2 the whole time and he'll keep running into it.

Anyway, I'm going to say Orphan of Kos. Because I love parrying and that boss was still pretty tough even though you could parry him.

Same as Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, but they have introduced the password feature.
People with the same password can summon each other regardless of their character level. People who get summoned get their stats adjusted to match host stats - I don't really know what kind of formula is used to adjust the stats.

How do weapons with elemental damage work? Like the Boom Hammer and Tonitrus. Is it Arcane that scales that damage? And I assume that only the attacks that contain the effect, are scaled and do the type of damage. Like Tonitrus being charged with lightning, otherwise it's normal melee. Or having to light up the boom hammer before it causing actual fire damage and getting scaled with Arcane (or whatever).

Asking because I want to make an Arcane build, and other than the Moonlight Sword, I'm not sure what to use. The Amygdalan Arm looks neat, but I'm not sure which attacks do the arcane damage and which ones are pure physical.

That frenzy didn't kill your right away if you have enough health or you simply would have a sedative equipped, just like you do with antidotes. I killed it by using a blue Elixier and sneaking up on it.

I'm just annoyed the bar keeps filling up after you're out of sight, that's annoying.

That's not unfair though. Any contact with frenzy causes the meter to build. It keeps going after you're "safe" because you already got that much inflicted on you. Drink Sedatives.

Here the optional areas:
DLC obviously
Upper Cathedral Which has two bosses one of them is hidden
Nightmare Whatever
Old Workshop
Cainhurst Castle
Witch's Abode
I might have missed something but these are what I remember. You can just back up your save file before beating the boss, beat the boss, and download your old save file if you want the trophy but don't want to start NG+.
